Chapter 26: A New Set of Flavours

Dawn's POV

Once we got a new carton of eggs, the four of us now made our way back to the kitchen in the school's cafeteria. I had to partly drag Deuce with me since he was still feeling dejected about the truth about how some eggs don't become chicks.

We now entered the kitchen where Trey and Deuce were waiting for us. "Oh, you're finally back. That sure took a while.", said Ace.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting.", I told him as we placed our bags on the table. Ace then noticed the plush doll on my shoulder and asked, "Hey, where did you get that stuffed animal Dawn?"

"This is Perry. We found him at the Mystery Shop and Sam allowed me to have him.", I told Ace as I showed him my new plush friend. "Say hello, Perry!"

"Kyu, Kyu!", he squeaked as he waved towards Ace and Trey.

"I-It's alive!?", Ace exclaimed in shock as Trey looked surprised as well. I began to tell them how Perry was found by Sam and how he gave him to me as a welcome gift. Trey let out a chuckled and stroked Perry's chin. "He's a friendly little guy.", he said. Perry squeaked in delight from Trey's stokes.

Once he finished petting him, he looked at us and said, "Now then, let's finish this up."

While Trey, Deuce, and Grim were using their magic in making the tart, me and Ace were stirring batter the old fashion way with wooden spoons. Ace looked like he was about to collapse after so much stirring, while Deuce was still shell-shocked about what I told him regarding how some eggs don't become chicks. Part of me felt bad about him, but I still wondered how he believed something like this his whole life.

Right now, I was more focused on my work with the tart rolling out the dough and placing it in the pan perfectly. After that, I got started with making the whipped cream and mixing at a fast pace.

Trey came over and said, "This is looking very good, it's hard to believe this is your first time making tarts." I looked up to see him giving me a closed-eyed smile as he complimented my work. I got distracted for a moment and I thought I felt something on my face. The boys started chuckling at me, so I asked, "What's so funny?"

"You got a little cream on your cheek.", Trey replied as he pointed at my cheek. Once he said that I tried to wipe it off, but I felt nothing. Trey gave a light laugh and said, "It's on the other side. Here." He cupped his hand under my cheek and used his thumb to wipe off the cream on my other cheek. To my shock, he brought his thumb to his mouth and licked it. "Ah!?", Ace and Deuce exclaimed as they witnessed this, while I was blushing from what I was seeing. "Mmmm. This cream is delicious Miss Baldwin. Good work.", he told me.

"I-It's no big deal. I'm glad the c-cream turned out g-good. And you can call me Dawn if you want.", I said as I was still flustered. Trey chuckled as he said, "Sure thing, Dawn."

"Alright, that's it!", Ace shouted as he grabbed Deuce and stomped over between me and Trey. "Let's just get this done." We were shocked to see Ace how he went from tired to extra motivated like this. 'Oh well, at least he got his spirits up again.', I thought as we all went back to work.

Hours passed as we kept on working and once Grim placed the marron glacé on top, our Mont Blanc was nearly completed by then. "Last, we dust the top with powdered sugar...", Trey said as he dusted the dessert with sweet sugar. Once the last of the tarts were sprinkled, I smiled and said, "All done~!"

"Finished~!!", Ace, Grim, and Dawn cheered with joy.

"Finished...", Deuce said with less enthusiasm. Ace looked over to see Deuce's downtrodden expression and asked me, "Did something happen while you were out shopping?"
