Chapter 49: Of Sympathy and Suspicion

3rd POV

The first years finally made it to the Heartslabyul Dorm after hearing about Trey getting injured; Dawn's school uniform once again changed into the Heartslabyul dorm uniform as they entered through the mirror and Deuce led the others to Trey's dorm room; he knocked on the door letting their presence known before entering the room. "Pardon the intrusion.", Ace and Dawn said in sync.

"Clover, are you okay?", Deuce asked.

"Yo, Glasses! We heard you're down in the dumps and came to pay our respects!", Grim said.

"Kyu, Kyu!", Perry squeaked, he suddenly jumped off Dawn's shoulder and went directly to Trey's bed and climbed up to see him.

Cater was there as he sat on a chair right next to Trey's bedside, he smiled cheerfully at the group of new arrivals. He stood up and said, "Oh, it's the A-Deuce combo. Plus Grimmy, Perry, and Dawnie in tow."

"Ah, hello... Cater, what's that A-Deuce thing?", Ace asked.

"Huh? It's cause both your names end in "-ce", so I put them together.", Cater answered. Dawn couldn't help but giggle at the pair's new nickname since it suited them; this made both boys' cheeks turn red. "Don't be lazy!", Deuce shouted in embarrassment.

"More importantly, how's Trey's injury?", Ace asked, getting back at the matter at hand. The three first-years and Grim soon approached Trey's bedside, while Perry was stoking Trey's hair in an attempt to soothe him. "Are you in any pain right now? How are you feeling?", Dawn asked with concern, seeing him like this broke her heart since he didn't deserve this.

Trey smiled at her and the others and said, "Don't worry Dawn, I'm okay. Aahh. I misstepped going down the stairs. I did my best to catch myself but my right foot is toast. I'll be in crutches for a while."

Deuce's eyes widen after hearing this. "Eh! That's a pretty bad injury!", he said.

"I'm probably completely out of this year's Magift games.", Trey said with a sigh.

"That should be the least of your concerns. Right now, you need to focus on getting yourself rest and making a full recovery.", Dawn told him. "Kyu!", Perry squeaked, agreeing with her. Perry started to ruffle his stomach until he found what he was looking for and pulled it out. It was a Jade gemstone that had the same shade of green as Trey's hair, Perry then placed the stone in Trey's hand and squeaked happily.

"Perry, are you giving that stone to Trey as a get-well present?", Dawn asked her plush friend. "Kyu, Kyu!", Perry squeaked as he nodded his head. Trey looked at the stone in his hand and stared at Perry with a warm smile. "I see. Thank you, Perry.", he told him as he stroked Perry's head, Perry squeaked in delight from this as he climbed on Trey's shoulder.

Grim soon approached Trey, he looked like he was fidgeting with something behind his back. "I wasn't gonna do this if it wasn't serious but... Here, a get-well can of tuna. Keep your chin up, Glasses.", Grim said as he presented Trey with a canned tuna. Everybody was surprised to see Grim actually sharing one of his tuna cans, but Dawn smiled thinking that Grim was starting to think of others and not just himself for once. Trey laughed as he took the can into his hand. "Haha, thank you.", he told Grim.

"Ugh, cut me some slack. Our star player, Trey, is out makes everything harder, and we have to have tryouts again.", Cater said as he sat down again.

"Oh!! Tryouts?", both Ace and Deuce shouted in excitement. Seeing the boys getting enthusiastic about the possibility of getting a chance to play in the tournament made Dawn roll her eyes as she sighed internally. 'Boys...', she thought. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and everyone turned to see that it was Riddle coming in; he was a bit upset that a crowd of people were all in one room. "What are you all doing here? Taking over an injured person's room...", he told them.
