RAMI POV ~~
"How much longer, we're far enough right?" Laxus huffed at my side, wiping the sweat from his brow.
"Yeah, far enough," I muttered, as the cold wind from the sea blew through my warm flushed face.
We had made it out of the forest on the outskirts of the island, a rocky cliff territory with waves crashing against the lengthy pillar of stone.
I took in a deep breath and grazed my fingers over my neck where the skin hardened and pulsated in pain, the slight breeze giving an amount of comfort, followed by uncertainty.
"Hey, you're ok." Laxus rubbed the small of my back as I relaxed into his touch.
"I just don't know what to expect, but for some reason, my expectations are not high," I crossed my arms and leaned into his shoulder as he hummed in reply, the relatedness of an absent, worthless father.
What was there to expect?
As much as this was about saving my friends, this was about me and my father, who apparently shows up to ruin everybody else's life including mine, once again.
It made me feel selfish, but I had to be. I needed the closure that the reason behind him coming to Magnolia wasn't the thirst for blood but, for me.
I knew it wasn't but I had to believe that for once his efforts would involve me.
I wanted my father to meet me.
To love me.
A tightness and suffocation at my throat broke as a sob choked through my vocal chords.
Laxus continued sifting his fingers through my hair, without speaking knowing I needed this silence to reminisce.
It's not like he was dead, he could have come to see me.
"I'm so fucking selfish for wanting the love of my father over the safety of the guild," I murmured, sniffing.
"And you're telling me this, after what I did."
Laxus continued.
"It's alright to be selfish sometimes," I felt his lightning flicker as he slightly moved me forward, pushing me to walk towards a dark flying figure in the sky that eventually landed on the edge of the cliff.
"Breathe Rami, I'll be right here."
My neck started to pulsate and sting even more as the man with long dark hair and tattered clothing walked towards me with a side grin.
I sensed Laxus on high alert if anything were to happen, but I expected nothing from this man.
"Rami, my daughter, you're transitioning sooner than I thought," He gripped at my neck and I sensed Laxus about to attack.
It's ok, let's see what he does.
If he fucking does anything to you I won't hold back
I know
"Hello to you to, Acnologia."
"Sss, ouch, don't remember my little girl being so aggressive to her dad."
"You shouldn't remember much since you weren't even there for most of it," I winced as the pain began spreading over my shoulder, skin hardening in response to his words.
"What the fuck is happening to me?" I asked as he glared at Laxus, finally grinning at my words.
"That my dearest, is your dragon form, you've done it before at the games for your little friend over there if you recall," pointing at Laxus he clicked his fingers as dark magic began to spill out of my body.
Laxy stay there I swear, don't come here, promise me
Rami what the fuck is going on-
Stay there.
"You think you being here activates this or some shit, why didn't you come see me before I became your weapon?" I winced as the scales ran along my arms.
"Tsk tsk tsk, Rami, the attitude just like your mother, wanting everything to be pure and white when the reality is, there's gotta be some darkness in everyone and eventually the dark fills out the light."
He walked back chuckling into the audience of nothingness.
"If you think I'm going to disagree with you, I'm not."
He seemed surprised at this, a sense of power and accomplishment running through his veins.
"I raised you right-"
"You didn't raise me. You taught me to be strong and so I am and there's nothing you can do about it, you want me as a weapon, I'll be a fucking weapon, but not for you." I grinned as his expression faltered as a reaction to an insult.
Not a word was said as he stepped away from me.
"What I want to know is, if I'll ever be anything more than a weapon to you."
I turned my gaze towards him, eyes filled with a mixture of pity and sorrow.
In that moment, I saw a man trapped within the confines of his own inadequacies, unable to break free from the chains of his past.
His eyes flickered, as if a glimmer of recognition pierced through the haze of indifference, but it vanished as quickly as it had come.
"A weapon is all you are." He muttered as he retreated and dived over the cliff before transitioning into his dragon form.
I dropped to my knees and as he left, the scales slowly left my body as I let out a deep breath feeling lighter than ever.
Laxus raced over to my side as a flood of tears fell from my eyes.
A barren wasteland of validation that was never achieved from a figure that was both physically and emotionally absent was what I thought I needed; validation.
How do I talk to someone like him without wanting to kill him or break down in tears?
The weight of resentment bore heavy on my shoulders, threatening to crush my spirit. But beneath the layers of anger and disappointment, a flicker of compassion still burned, refusing to be extinguished.
In the depths of my heart, I understood that my father's actions were rooted in his own painful past, a legacy of wounds passed down from generation to generation.
I couldn't blame him.
Laxus' voice vibrated through my body leaving goosebumps on my skin.
"Let's go home."
