Nayuna had a car. And you had free time. And so apparently, you had a new friend. Or at least it felt that way, driving around Seoul that night.
It was a particularly busy day; the school was nagging on reports earlier than usual. So, when you finally got home, after having wasted approximately two hours extra at the school, you still had Excel sheets to fill out, giving out individual progress reports to each student.
The funniest thing was, so many of your students had, truth to say, no progress...So when you did get home, you got real creative.
How many teachers lied daily? How many reports have been made, only to not be read? Why was all this so taxing when it needn't be?
Why was every system made to be hated? Did any system actually work? Maybe organized systems like health, education, etc, were never meant to work. But civilization has existed like this for centuries, so what could little old you do? Start a riot and dismantle a whole way of living? Perhaps in another life. And making something wrong work was never a good idea, however many success stories you heard.
At least that's what you thought, maybe you were wrong. Maybe things could be fixed and didn't need to end, to be reborn, maybe you could change without figurative death. But then again, was that a life you would want to live?
This is what night drives did to you, and you considered, everyone. What else could you do with music playing and night lights blinking in front of you as you drove on what seemed to be an endless road, with no guessing what was ahead.
Nayuna was a good driver, and a quiet one as well. She looked very different in the driver's seat. She looked nothing like when you first met her; timid, nervous, and lost. No, instead she knew confidently who she was, and where she was going, hands on the wheel, head rested and chin up, lips mouthing the lyrics to the song from the radio carelessly.
So, once you finished your work, you had instant ramen, and a k-drama in the back, obviously. No space for thoughts. That's when you got a text from Nayuna. She had only asked you how you are, what are you doing? So, you told her, and she sent a picture of her doing the same thing. It was funny.
Soon, she offered you a ride. You asked where, and she said she knew a spot. Somehow this was even funnier, you felt like you were being stalked by some promiscuous boy.
But who were you to turn down such a phenomenal outing, especially when you had nothing else to do. And that's how you ended up seeing more of Seoul now than ever. Probably because you had never been driven around this much, and now you were finally living out your passenger princess dreams.
"Did you always know what you wanted to do?"
She asked you. And you thought about it before replying, kind of like she did. She could surely pass on some great habits.
"Not really. I guess I just knew where I wanted to go. Somehow something always drew me to South Korea. And so, here I am"
Nayuna smiled, before asking further.
"Do you miss your old life?"
"I miss my family very often-"
"No, I know" she interrupted you "Obviously you will miss your family. But you just left your life over there! I can't imagine that. That's why I ask, do you miss it, your life back home?"
Again, you had to think about this one. Your life back home wasn't your life. Was it? You lived with your parents, you were still in uni, you were still doing what needed be done. You weren't really creating your own life, rather living out the part of life Miso referred too as building. You were building the foundation for what you had now.
