The whole chamber was silent, apart from the odd dripping of water being heard. But we were all trying to process what we just heard. "You.. You're the heir of Slytherin. You're Voldemort." Harry asks dumbly. Of course he just said that Harry. "Surely, you didn't think I was going to keep my FILTHY Muggle father's name. No. I fashioned myself a new name, a name I knew wizards everywhere would one day fear to speak when I became the greatest sorcerer in the world" Tom says, visibly more angrier. "Albus Dumbledore is the greatest sorcerer in the world!" Harry yells. "Dumbledore has been driven out of this castle by the mere memory of me." Tom argues back. "He'll never be gone! Not as long as those who remain are loyal to him!"
Suddenly the sound of screeching and flapping wings are heard above us. It's a phoenix holding some kind of package in its claws. "Fawkes?" Harry exclaims just as the bird flies over us dropping the package onto Harry's hands. Fawkes flies back out the chamber the way it came. Harry opens the package revealing what looks like the sorting hat. "So this is what Dumbledore sends his great defender. A songbird and an old hat." Tom says glairing at Harry before turning around and speaking Parseltongue.
Suddenly, the mouth of the stone statue of Salazar Slytherin opens. "Let's match the power of Lord Voldemort, Heir of Salazar Slytherin against the famous Harry Potter. There's a few seconds of silence until a rumbling and screeching sound is heard from the mouth, and out slithers a huge snake. I try to move Ginny away from the snake but my body wont move I can't keep my eyes off the Basilisk, it's scary ad amazing at the same time. I don't know what to think or do. I hear Tom mutters something else in Parseltongue before speaking. "Parseltongue won't save you now, Potter. It only obeys me." Harry run off down the tunnel and the Basilisk slithers after him growling. He slips over halfway down and before the Basilisk is about to attack Harry, Fawkes's screeching is heard again and the bird swoops down, heading straight for the basilisk. I look over to the shadow on the wall and realise what's happening. Fawkes is pecking at its face and clawing out the Basilisk's eyes. "No! Your bird may have blinded the basilisk, but it can still hear you." Tom screams. Fawkes flies away and Harry gets up slowly and backs away while the basilisk is flailing, he makes a run for it down a passage to his right and the Basilisk follows.
I manage to get up from where I'm sitting and run over to Atticus. "Atti, how do we get Ginny out of here?" I ask him, looking back over to Ginny and Tom. "I'm not sure." He replies with a mumble, but still looks to be deep in thought. "Wait, Phoenix's can carry a lot of weight, maybe we could get Fawkes to help..?" "And how do you suggest we do that? What you can speak phoenix, now, too?" I say sarcastically, and I see him roll his eyes. We both look away from each other and notice Tom staring at us, his wand extended. "You two aren't thinking of leaving, are you?" He asks, taking a step towards us. "No, of course not." I respond quickly. "Not without Ginny and Harry, of course." Atticus says before I'm about to say the same thing.
Tom laughs as Harry runs back over to Ginny, kneeling in font of her. "Yes, Potter. The process is nearly complete." Tom speaks as Harry puts his hand on Ginny's hand. Most likely feeling her ice cold hands like I did moments before. "In a few minutes, Ginny Weasley will be dead, and I will cease to be a memory. Lord Voldemort will return... very... much... alive." "Ginny..." Harry mumbles just as the Basilisk bursts out of the water in front of the Slytherin statue, thrashing around. Harry turns toward the Sorting Hat, where a sword magically appears inside the hat. Harry, without any hesitation, grabs the sword and holds it up defensively the Basilisk slithers towards him. "Did you just see that?" Atticus asks me, staring towards Harry. "Yep." I'm in the same disbelief he is.
Harry races for the statue and begins to climb it, the Basilisk blindly follows Harry's movements, using its hissing tongue to track where Harry goes. Harry swings the sword at the Basilisk, it lunges directly at him, but Harry dodges, and the Basilisk's head hits the statue. Harry climbs higher as the Basilisk lunges again, missing Harry once more. Harry climbs onto the top of the statue's head, the Basilisk lunges at Harry repeatedly. But Harry gets ready and he swings the sword wildly at the Basilisk the second it lunges again. Eventually, the Basilisk sends Harry rolling down the side of the statue, causing him to lose the sword. Our eyes fixed on the fight in front of us not moving a single muscle.
My eyes glued on the sword as It's about to slide off the top of the statue's head, Harry cries out. "No!" He hurries to grab the sword. The Basilisk lunges right at Harry once more. Harry stops the sword just in time, and as he picks it up he rams it right through the Basilisk's jaw. The Basilisk screams in pain until Harry pulls the sword out. Harry screams in pain as one of the Basilisk's venomous fangs lodges itself into his arm. I wince as he pulls the fang out. The Basilisk thrashes around in pain, it eventually collapses and falls backwards to the floor, dead. Splashing water all over Atticus and I. Tom Riddle stares at the Basilisk's corpse in shock, then anger.
Harry limps past the corpse of the snake, dropping the sword and collapses to his knees, he then crawls towards Ginny once more as Tom slowly walks toward them. "Remarkable, isn't it? How quickly the venom of the Basilisk penetrates the body. I guess you have little more than a minute to live. You'll be with your dear Mudblood mother soon, Harry." Harry lifts his hand to hold Ginny's again. "Funny... the damage a silly little book can do... especially in the hands of a silly little girl." Harry looks towards the diary in Ginny's arm and carefully pulls it out, placing it on the floor between her and the Basilisk fang. "What are you doing?" Harry picks up the fang and holds it up while staring at Tom Riddle. The look on his face tells me that he immediately realises what Harry is about to do. "Stop. No!" Tom pleads as Harry stabs one of the diary's pages with the fang when Tom Riddle steps forward to try and stop Harry. His body crumbles and it looks like cracking light almost like fireworks. I look down at the diary and notice the ink starts to leak from the it, Tom Riddle recoils and growls with anger. Harry pulls the fang out. But Riddle attempts to attack again. But Harry stabs the other page, quickly like he's playing a game with him, which makes him cripple and crackle even more. Harry pries out the fang once more but this time he closes the diary and stabs the cover with the fang. Riddle screams in pain once more and finally disintegrates into yellow particles. Moments after Tom Riddle is gone. Ginny awakens, hyperventilating, and sits up slowly confused and dazed.
"Ginny.." Harry whimpers. "Harry, it was me. But, I swear, I didn't mean to... Riddle made me. And... Harry... you're hurt.." Ginny says, stumbling over her words.. "Don't worry. Ginny, you need to get yourself out. Follow Asteria and Atticus through the Chamber, and you'll find Ron." I hear Fawkes squawk again. we all look in the birds direction to see him flying towards us. He swoops around the Basilisk's body, and lands in between Harry and Ginny, then Fawkes steps over to Harry as Atticus and I make our way closer to them. "You were brilliant, Fawkes. I just wasn't quick enough." Harry says looking down at his arm. Fawkes makes a low grunt sound, then lowers his head to Harry's wound, and cries on it, Huh? "What's happening..?" I whisper at Atticus in confusion. The wound on Harry's arm suddenly disappears, I'm amazed and still confused. "Of course!" Harry exclaims. "Phoenix tears have healing powers." He says to Ginny as I hear Atticus say the same thing to me. Wow that's awesome I think to myself. "Thanks. "Harry tells Fawkes, he then looks at Ginny, Atticus and I. "It's all right, Ginny. It's over. It's just a memory."
Atticus helps Harry to his feet as I help Ginny up. Fawkes perches on Harry's shoulder holding the sorting hat in his beak, Harry with the sword in his hand and Ginny holding onto the diary. We make our way to where Ron was. While this whole thing had been going on Ron had dug out a cave-in in the chamber. I notice someone else with Ron, I roll my eyes when I realise it's Gilderoy Lockhart, who was dazed looked like he didn't have a clue who he is, or where he was. The six of us link arms and allow Fawkes to fly us out of the Chamber the way we got in. "Amazing!" Lockhart exclaims. "This is just like magic!" I roll my eyes at his outburst.
