Chapter 24

The crew readied themselves for the mission they were tasked with, entering the cockpit Ezra took a seat feeling Sabine put a hand on his shoulder he looked on "so, do we finally get to find out what this mission is about?" He asked feeling a smack on the back of his head the guardian winced "Hera already told you. It's secret." Sabine said as the hunter rubbed the back of his head "that's like 90% of everything we do." The hunter complained "some things more than others. Ok, Chop, put Command through." Hera said the droid obliged displaying a Holoprojection of Senator Organa and Commander Sato "Senator Organa?" Hera asked surprised "I wanted to explain the mission personally, Captain Syndulla. There is much at stake." The Senator said making Kanan nod "how can we help?" He asked "rebel command received your report on the apparent disappearance of the Geonosian people. After some debate, we decided to take a risk and investigate." Organa said Ezra spun a knife "so we're looking for Geonosians?" He asked catching the blade and holstering it "no. You are looking for the team we already sent. We lost contact with them two cycles ago." The senator explained "do you think it was the empire?" Kanan inquired "unknown. Contact was lost after the team reported an energy source on the planet's surface." Sato explained "energy source? When we went to Geonosis, there was nothing. No signs of life or power." Hera explained "your primary mission is to recover our people and any intel they gathered." Organa explained "who is it we're looking for?" Hera asked with a raised brow "Saw Gerrera." Rex answered from behind making the crew turn to him "Rex, you knew about this?" Kanan asked "yeah I did. I've known Saw a long time and I've learned when he's concerned about something it's usually worth taking a closer look." Rex explained making the hunter hum in contemplation "so this Saw guy is worried about what we found?" Ezra asked sitting in a very bored manner "he's worried about what we didn't find." Rex said as they exited hyperspace to the ringed planet.

The crew went towards the planet as Ezra looked around "the construction modules and debris we saw last time it's all gone." Hera informed "well, I'm picking up a power source on the surface right where Command said it would be but I can't raise Saw on any channel there's only static." Sabine explained "Geonosians live underground. It's possible Saw and his people can't gear our transmission." Kanan said making Hera turn back to focus on flying "let's get down there and find out." She said bringing The Ghost down into a storm "hang on. The storm is wrecking havoc on my scopes. Chopper, stabilizers!" Hera shouted as the droid went over inserting his tool in the slot and turning it "how's it feel to be back, Rex?" Zeb asked making the clone scoff "honestly? I was hoping I'd never have to come back to this dust ball." Rex answered as Hera landed The Ghost perfectly making Ezra chuckle "I think you made Sam jealous with that landing Hera." Ezra joked making the pilot chuckle before immediately putting her serious face back on "I had to set her down, but we're in the neighborhood." She said as Rex stood next to the sitting hunter looking at the screens nearby "According to Command, Gerrera's recon team entered a structure two klicks north of our current position." Rex said, Sam popped out of her pocket dimension "is it too much to hope they took shelter there?" She asked making Kanan shrug "it's possible. Sabine, what about the power source you detected?" Kanan asked as the mando in question went over to the screen Rex was near using it to find the source "different location, and close. But thanks to the storm I can't get a precise reading about where or what it is." Sabine answered, Hera stood up "keep working on it. Until we know more about that power source we'll split up into two groups. Rex, Kanan, Ezra, and Chopper." She listed off making the hunter hold his fists out for a fist bump the clone gave it a quick tap of his own while the Jedi ignored causing the hunter to sigh and lower his other hand "go check out the coordinates of Saw's last transmission." Hera continued "what about me?" Zeb asked with a raised brow "you're staying here with us, in case the Empire comes along." Hera said making the lasat chuckle "so I can bust some buckets." He said clenching his fist with a palm.
