You taught me a secret language I can't speak with anyone else

The rain fell heavily, casting a shimmering veil  over the darkened streets, as Akshara sat in the passenger seat of her ex-boyfriend's car. The sound of raindrops tapping against the windshield seemed to mirror the awkwardness between them. Emotions were unspoken yet palpable as the city lights blurred through the rain streaked glass.

Akshara gazed out of the window, trying to hide the mix of nostalgia and hurt that resurfaced being next to Abhimanyu. She couldn't help but remember the happy times they once shared together. A silent sadistic chuckle escaped her lips, remembering how Abhimanyu used to get her without even saying a word like they had some sort of secret language, something she couldn't develop with anyone else till now.

Abhimanyu, glancing briefly at her, sensed her uneasiness but didn't say anything. The weight of regret hung heavily in the air. As they continued down the dimly lit streets, the rhythmic pattern of raindrops started to evoke a sense of melancholy. Abhimanyu finally broke the silence, his voice trembling slightly as he tried to stay composed.

"I never knew you wanted to be a music therapist." He spoke, eyeing her from the corner of his eyes, trying to figure if he just didn't ask a dumb question and made her more uncomfortable than before, but for the first time in his life he couldn't read her, he couldn't find any hint of expression on her face.

"Life doesn't go as we want. I never wanted many of the things to happen, but they did." Her words stung his heart as he looked at her for a brief second before again, focusing his gaze on the road ahead while Akshara blankly stared at him.

"Akshara, I... I never wanted any of that to happen. I was naive and....." before he could continue with his apology he felt her moving in her space before reaching out towards the volume button and increasing it with rage as she clenched her fingers into a fist trying hard not to burst out at the moment.

His head fell back on the driving seat as he cursed under his breath for losing his emotions. This wasn't supposed to be like this. This was never supposed to be like this. His brain chanted again and again. Abhimanyu's mind went back to the time when Akshara spoke about her love for monsoon season, and this was clearly not how he had imagined them when he listened to all her wildest fantasies about rain.

Na hai yeh paana, na khona hi hai,
Tera na hona janay, kyun hona hi hai,
Tum se hi din hota hai, surmayi shaam aati hai,
Tum se hi, Tum se hi...

As if it wasn't already a lot and painfully nostalgic tonight, a song from Akshara's favourite comfort movie started playing bringing a whole lot of memories. Abhimanyu's grip tightened on the steering wheel while Akshara clutched her handbag tightly, digging her nails into the leather fabric before she closed her eyes as her mind took her two years back in age.

|FLASHBACK|

"Akshara, you really want me to watch this? You know I hate rom-coms! Can't we watch 7 or something like that?" An irritated Abhimanyu sat down on the pillow bed made by his girlfriend as he took a handful of popcorns in his mouth while Akshara frowned at him.

"I still can't believe you've never watched 'Jab We Met' yet. It's such an iconic movie. I watch it at least 12 times a year!" Akshara told him as he shook his head before pulling her into him to snuggle as Akshara clicked the play button in order to start the movie.

"That's like every month. You're clearly obsessed, babe." Abhimanyu pressed a soft kiss on her head before resting his cheek over her head as his eyes shifted towards the TV screen, frowning at the man who was at the moment dropping all his valuables on the street.

"I just love it so much!! Specially their rain dance, uff!! I so wanna dance like that with you in the rain." Akshara glanced up at Abhimanyu with her sparkling eyes, and Abhimanyu couldn't help but smile at her cuteness as he pecked her pink lips.

"You know I don't like rains, baby." His hands moved in her hair as he played with them. Akshara's face showed annoyance at his remarks before she moved to pause the movie and sat up, pushing him away slightly as he chuckled at her antics.

"You know it's my biggest fantasy to dance and get drenched in rain with you!! I can't wait for the monsoon season now! Will you dance with me?" She looked at him with puppy eyes as he stared at her innocent face before cupping it gently and capturing her lips in a kiss, giving her every kind of assurance she needed.

"I will."

|FLASHBACK|

Her eyes opened instantly, jerking forward as Abhimanyu pushed the breaks suddenly, stopping the car in the middle of the street before he turned to look at her. Her eyes met his as they could feel their heartbeats grew faster. With one swift motion, he turned up the volume of the song to the fullest and got out of the car, leaving behind a dumbfounded Akshara.

Aankho mai aankhain teri,
Baaho mai baahein teri,
Mera na mujh mai kuch raha,
Hua kya,

Akshara's eyes widened as she saw Abhimanyu standing in the middle of the street getting drenched in the rain, happily. Without even giving it a second thought, she too got out of the car and went towards him before he turned around to look at her with a wide smile on his face but it still didn't hid the pain and guilt evident in his eyes.

"Are you crazy? Get inside the car!" Akshara raised her voice, but it fell weak in front of the blasting music coming from the car. Her white top now completely soaked, making her chest slightly visible through the material. Abhimanyu pulled her by her waist as their wet bodies clung onto each other, making their heart beats in sync with the rain drops.

"You never liked rain." Her voice came out as a mere whisper as Abhimanyu gently swayed their bodies to the rhythm of the music. His fingers clutched behind her waist tightly as he pulled her closer to him. Akshara's mind was quick to shut due to their close proximity as she felt her body giving in.

"But you do." His gaze held nothing but honesty for her as everything yet again hit her, and she pushed him back, causing them to separate and he looked at her with pleading eyes, screaming apology in such a way his words could never. Akshara wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes before they could even drop to her cheeks as she spoke.

"I don't. Not anymore."
