Nyx's POV

I have been stuck in this dark place for so long. It is cold and dark. I feel like I was meant to be alone and no one was there to guide me. Like there is no light and there is no hope. It was like running through a circle of failures and suffering. I have always been the black sheep of the family. The moment they saw my mark it felt like I was only born to fulfill the desires of what they wanted me to do. I have been carrying the burden of fighting for my life. I have always been striving to become chosen like they wanted me to do. To lead humanity to victory against the demons.

It is suffocating. I felt like sinking and drowning to the expectations of others. I want to stop fighting and I want to do what I want for myself. I want to protect those persons who choose to accept me for who I was and love me for who I have been. Most of my years were spent to be perfect and to be sacrificed in order to become someone who is powerful. Someone that can beat the demons and no one can stop me. But it all changed when I met a young five-year-old girl whose eyes spoke peace and hope. She was not afraid of me even when she saw the tattoo on my arm. She gave me a sense to live with happiness and never gave up.

'Hey, are you okay?' I heard a familiar voice that has always been a part of my memory.

'Nyx, wake up!' Her sweet little voice is like listening to a melody sweet to the soul.

Dahan-dahan kong minulat ang aking mata at nakita siya. Her eyes always bring out the brightest smile. Umupo ako upang siya ay titigan. She was wearing her usual white dress holding her favorite book. Isang ngiti ang aking natanggap habang agad niyang inabot sa akin ang libro.

I was currently sleeping under an oak tree outside the castle. After a day of heavy training, I manage to sneak out without the maids knowing that I am missing. Meeting her in this oak tree was one of the days I always look forward to. We are currently resting after a day of running in the fields.

Hinawakan niya ang aking kamay at ginaya patungo sa gubat kung saan madalas kami naglalaro. Masaya ko siyang pinagmasdan habang hinihila niya ako. Pinagmasdan ko ang kanyang reaksyon habang kami ay naglalakad patungo sa gubat.

'Nyx, can you read this for me?' She asked me while she was off the log. I gladly nodded. I opened the book she showed me and started reading it.

'K-knights and p-princesses.' I started. I looked at her and she smiled and nodded. She has been teaching me to speak ever since I met her. I was about to read the next line when suddenly I heard noises echoing in the forest and an endless howl could be heard from afar.

Mabilis akong naging alerto at maging siya ay mukhang natakot sa kanyang narinig. Mabilis kong inilabas ang aking espada kasabay ng pagbuka ng aking kamay upang ilabas ang aking kapangyarihan. Napatingin ako sa kanya ngunit nakita ko may hawak din siyang maliit na dagger na mula sa kanyang belt. Namangha ako ng agad siyang tumalikod sa akin at nagging alerto sa paligid.

Suddenly, a pack of level 5 demon wolves approached us. Their teeths are sharper than my sword, their claws are meant to tear us alive and their speed is faster than our agility. I grip my sword tightly wanting to protect the only girl I knew who has never been afraid of me. As I tried to stand firm my heart began to ache as the place began to spin in my mind. The next scenes flash through my mind and my head begins to hurt like crazy.

I slowly opened my eyes and realized I was catching my breath. The same memory keeps hunting me every single day ever since that day it never left me. It feels like I am stuck having the same nightmares each day. I guess my destiny will never change the moment I was born.
