Dragon's Lair

The forest was unnaturally quiet, as if even the wind whispered and rustled the leaves. The only sounds are the occasional snap of a twig underfoot. The sun was about to rise when I decided to walk out of our tent. I tried my best to sleep but the scene kept playing back in my head.

They gave us food and some healers tended our wounds. The commander also introduced us to his comrades and gave us clothes to change on. Luckily, we met some of the volunteers who were also women and they shared their experiences on how many times they attempted to defeat the Dragon.

I walked through the tents of the soldiers and my eyes landed on two huge rocks in front of a tent. As I looked closely, I found dozens of names carved on each of it but some of it was already in the shade. I slowly traced it with my hands through the ones that were already crossed out.

'Why are some names crossed out like they are no longer a part of the mission?'

"Those are the names that fearlessly went inside the Dungeon but never returned." napatalon ako sa gulat ng marinig na may nagsalita sa likuran ko.

I looked behind me and found Nyx standing a few inches away from me with both of his hands in his pocket. He was wearing a white polo and a pair of black pants. His eyes were calmed and he slowly walked towards me. My face heated as his muscles tensed underneath his clothes.

"I-i thought you're still sleeping." I shuttered as I asked him. He stopped in front of me and looked at the names written in those rocks.

My heart skipped a beat as I inhaled his manly scent. I felt my cheeks heated as his presence was only a few inches away from me.

"I need some air so I walked out of our tent only to find you here." he answered, glancing back at me.

His expression remained calm but his blue eyes looked like something bad had happened.

'Is it about the information that he and the commander had talked about?' I thought to myself.

"I couldn't sleep and noticed these rocks." I answered.

I glanced at his eyes and noticed how beautiful it was. His eyes soften, melting me in his gaze. I felt butterflies in my stomach as he slowly extended his hand in front of me

"I'll walk you back to your tent because you need some rest." he quietly suggested.

I looked at his hand in front of me before I heard him whisper something that I never thought he would.

"Can I hold your hand?" he whispered but it was enough for me to hear it.

My heart began to pound and slowly I gazed at him. His eyes were waiting for me to respond. I gently placed my right hand on his palm and he gently glided his fingers into mine and intertwined it. His hand was warm and soft that wrapped my hands that were cold.

When we reached our tent he stood still and he didn't let go of my hand. I glanced at him only to find his eyes staring at our hands holding each other. He slowly looked at me and took a deep breath before he talked.

"No matter what happens in the battle against the Seven headed Dragon. Don't get hurt and I promise to protect you."  he whispered. I was a little bit confused about what he said while he slowly let go of my hands.
