Chapter 1: That mission

"No."

(Y/N) gives an annoyed look.

"But whyy?" she whines.

"I've told you several times. You and Shoko can't go on dangerous missions."

"What's the point of being a jujutsu sorcerer then? If we can't do anything?"

"C'mon (F/N), that's enough" Shoko said, tugging her friend's arm.

"But-"

"Let's go." 

(Y/N) sighed and gave in, walking out of the room with her friend by her side.

"You know (F/N), you really need to just calm down sometimes. You aren't supposed to talk to people with more authority than you like that." the girl with short brown hair says.

"You sound like Suguru." the other replies.

As if on cue, two boys appear out of nowhere.

"So, convinced them?" the one with dark hair asks.

"Oh come on Suguru, isn't it obvious? She wouldn't be pouting like this if they'd accepted." the other says with a smirk.

"Shut it Satoru." (Y/N) says, smacking his arm slightly.

"Aw, are you gonna cry?" Gojo teases.

"I AM NOT."

Her three friends chuckle at her reaction and the four of them start making their way to the school gymnasium.

"But you know (F/N), the fact that you and Shoko can both use reverse curse technique so well is a good thing." Geto casually says.

"I guess.." (Y/N) mumbles.

As Gojo, Geto, and (Y/N) were walking around together after Shoko had been called away by a teacher, the two boys' new mission was brought up.

"So you guys have another mission huh?" she asks.

"Yep." Geto sighs.

"Am I allowed to know what it is or is it top secret?"

"Basically, we have to find a girl, kidnap her, escort her, and then erase her." Gojo says, waving his hands from side to side.

"Oh. The plasma thing? For Tengen?"

"Bingo. How'd you know that?" the white-haired boy questions.

(Y/N) shrugs before turning to the two boys with a serious expression.

"What will you guys do if she refuses to be assimilated? I mean-"

"Well, then the assimilation's off." Gojo answers simply.

She stared at him, slightly surprised at how certain and calm his answer was. Geto lets out a chuckle.

"Are you sure about that?" he asks with a smirk "It might mean fighting Tengen you know?"

"What, you scared?" the boy replies, his blue eyes shining "It'll be fine. We're the strongest after all."

That last comment received a slightly smug, but happy smile from Geto.

"You guys definitely are." (Y/N) smiles.

"Hey, that includes you too." Gojo says "Even though you're a crybaby."

"STOP CALLING ME THAT I AM NOT A CRYBABY."

Geto bursts into laughter as the two continue arguing back and forth. After a while, they stopped and separated ways.

One thing none of them knew was that this was going to be one of the last times they'd be like this together.

Soon after, Gojo and Geto left for their mission. Meanwhile, at school, Shoko and (Y/N) continued with classes and training, occasionally simple missions. The two girls would often sit together before bed and chat about literally everything. Everything was normal. Everything was okay. Although the four of them weren't together, they were all happy.

......

The day the two boys were supposed to head back to Tokyo with Riko, the star plasma vessel, (Y/N) called to check up on them.

"Hellooo?"

"Hey there." Geto answers, smiling.

"Suguruuu, hi how are you guys doing?" she asks

"Not bad. We're gonna stay here longer than expected though, we'll be heading back tomorrow morning."

"Oh. That's sudden."

Even though she didn't say any more than that, he could tell there was a hinge of disappointment in her voice.

"It's just a little longer. We'll be back soon, promise." he says.

Silence.

"(F/N)?" Geto says again "Are you still there?"

"I made her go brush her teeth." Shoko's voice answers "So, staying longer?"

"Shoko, hi. Yeah, just a little longer than planned."

"Hm. Well, let Gojo know that his lovely (F/N) is worried about all of you. I guess I am too, but I know you guys will manage."

"His lovely (F/N)?" Geto asks, amused.

"You can't tell me he doesn't kinda have a thing for her, I mean she keeps saying you two have the best chemistry ever, but you know." she sighs. "Oops, my lovely (F/N) is trying to get her phone back now, see ya."

"Bye." the boy says, chucking.

"Did she say anything dumb?" Shoko's voice was now replaced by (Y/N)'s.

"No no, don't worry."

"Yeah right, I don't trust you." she pauses. "Hey so, have you guys gotten any rest?"

"Yeah." he hesitates before continuing. "Satoru hasn't though."

"Oh. Well- You guys take care alright?"

"Mhm. Um (F/N) there's something I wanted to ask." Geto says

"Yeah?"

"So.. I caught myself thinking once, well- whether I should just- kill them. The people getting in our way, intentionally or not. I mean, they're weak, I can do it and it won't affect me much so-" he stops. "Nevermind, forget what I sai-"

"Well.." she cuts him off. "I'm not in your place exactly so I can't be sure, but I don't think you should. I mean, you don't really have a reason right? Or like, a point? I think that's important, it's necessary. Especially for us sorcerers. I hope what I'm saying makes sense."

A short pause.

"Yeah. It does. Thank you." the dark-haired boy replied with a smile that seemed almost reassured.

"Okay, well, try to get some rest. See you two soon."

"Bye, goodnight."

"Goodnight. Be safe."

She hung up. Geto stood up and glanced at Gojo.

"It'll be over soon. The mission is coming to an end." he thought.

Gojo who was sitting surprisingly quietly happened to be thinking the same thing.
