It had been so long since the last time she and the students had the chance to get together. They were all sitting and chatting in the living room as (Y/N) busied herself in the kitchen.

"Shouldn't we go help her?" Itaodri asked.

"She'll just push you out the moment you walk in." Maki replied to which Inumaki nodded.

They continued talking and laughing. Meanwhile, (Y/N) was walking around the kitchen, taking out ingredients from the fridge. Suddenly, as she was walking towards the counter, her legs gave away and she fell.

"Are you serious?" the woman muttered. "I've barely used my cursed technique."

Hearing the thud, the students in the other room turned their heads towards the kitchen.

"I'll go check." Fushiguro said, standing up.

He walked into the kitchen to see her gingerly pushing herself up from the ground and asked if she was okay.

"Yep."

"What happened?"

"I fell."

"I know." the boy deadpanned.

"Tripped." (Y/N) chuckled and he raised his eyebrows, unconvinced.

"Do you need help cutting the vegetables?"

"I haven't washed them yet." she replied before continuing jokingly. "Go back already, don't try to run away from them."

Megumi quietly walked over to the sink and started washing the vegetables, making the older girl sigh. He, of all the students, was probably the most likely to notice something different since she had yet to tell them about the ritual and the fact that she would eventually have to leave them.

"Fushiguro's been gone for a while." Nobara remarked after a few minutes.

"Should I go check on him?" Itadori asked.

"Bonito flakes." Inumaki replied, shaking his head.

"Yeah, he's right. Give them some time alone." Maki said.

"Fushiguro might be the only one who hasn't had the chance to talk to her alone yet, after everything that happened." Yuta remarked.

"Which is kinda weird." Panda added.

(Y/N) awkwardly stared at Fushiguro for a while, before walking over beside him to start cutting the vegetables he'd finished washing.

"Are you avoiding me?" the boy suddenly asked.

"No! Of course not, I- I've just been spending more time with Shoko."

"Did something happen?"

"What do you mean?"

"I feel like you're not telling me something." he replied. "Like you're hiding something. I'm not sure if it's from me or all of us. You know you can tell us things right?"

He was looking at her, trying to see if there'd be a shift in her expression. But she just smiled.

"I know."

"I mean it." Fushiguro said. "After all, you're.. family."

(Y/N)'s eyes widened a bit and she hesitantly turned to him.

"You heard him?" she asked even though she knew the answer.

He nodded.

"Listen, there is stuff I need to tell all of you." the (H/C)-haired woman said. "But not now. Maybe this evening, or maybe tomorrow, okay? Let's start by cooking and enjoying the food together."

The boy nodded again and stayed in the kitchen, helping her cook as well as bringing the food onto the big dining table once they were done.

......

Unfortunately, the conversation was inevitable since (Y/N) didn't want to suddenly disappear without any explanation. So, later that evening, the students came back, this time also joined by Shoko. With her friend, (Y/N) explained everything. The books, the ritual, its conditions...

"So.. You're dying?" Maki was the first to talk.

"Yep."

Silence took over the room.

"Is there anything that can be done?" Panda asked.

"I wouldn't think so." the older sorcerer answered. "But I don't regret it in the slightest."

She smiled.

"Seeing all of you together makes me so happy. It's reassuring to know that the next generation is full of strong sorcerers and good people."

"What she's trying to say is that she loves all of you so much, but sadly can't stay around forever." Shoko said after the room had fallen silent yet again. "But she knows you'll all be okay even without her."

......

It took some time for the students to process the information (Y/N) told them. Once they did, they would start spending more time with her, knowing that eventually, she wouldn't be with them anymore.

(Y/N) also kept her promise. She spent most of her time with Shoko, doing things they did back when they were students.

As time went on, she got weaker, her cursed energy slowly draining away.

......

"(F/N)?"

"Hey!" she waved at Kugiski. "Come watch the sunset with me."

The girl walked down the hill and sat beside her.

"Why did you save me?" she asked quietly.

"Because you're important to me." (Y/N) answered simply. "And the others too."

"So are you."

"I have less to live for than you do though." the older girl said, lying down on the grass. "You have so much to see and experience. I didn't get to be with all my high school friends for that long, I want to make it possible for you guys. That's what Satoru wanted too."

"Thank you." Kugisaki said after a while. "I'm happy I get to live more."

(Y/N) smiled and the two of them sat there until Fushiguro, who happened to be walking by, saw them and suggested they go back in since it was getting dark. The short-haired girl left for her room, wishing them goodnight.

"Does Miss Ieri know you're here?"

"She's not my mom." (Y/N) chuckled.

She stood up but fell as she took a step which made her cuss under her breath. Fushiguro walked over and swiftly carried her up on his back.

"What the-" the (H/C)-haired girl said, surprised. "Megumi, put me down!"

"Stop moving, we'll both fall."

"Why are you getting more and more like Satoru?" she asked jokingly.

He didn't respond.

"Does being compared to him bother you that much?" (Y/N) chuckled. "I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to-"

"You've taken care of me for so long, it's my turn to take care of you."

Silence.

"I'll miss you so much, little Megumi." she said softly.

"I'll miss you too." he replied quietly.
