(Y/N) read and re-read the page multiple times, ensuring she understood what was written.
"I think I found it." she finally said, turning the book towards Shoko and pointing at the page. "Take a look at this."
It was one page, but after reading it repeatedly, (Y/N) could see it working for the situation Nobara was in. The concept was simple: a ritual where a person who possesses cursed energy transfers it to the one in a state of unconsciousness.
"No." Shoko replied after reaching the bottom of the page.
"We only have a few books left, I don't think we'll find anything better."
"(F/N), it clearly says that the person transferring the cursed energy will eventually run out and die."
"She's my student, I need to save her." (Y/N) explained. "Plus, I promised Satoru."
"He loves you more than anything, do you really think he's want you to sacrifice yourself?" the brown-haired woman argued, her eyes glossy.
"She means a lot to the other students too and I want them to be together! They deserve to be happy! I found a way to save her, I ha-"
"WHAT ABOUT ME." Shoko shouted, cutting her off. "You're important to me, I want us to stay together, and.. I'd be completely alone."
(Y/N) stopped at that, staring at her friend. The two of them, in years of knowing each other, had barely ever argued.
"Even if I were to do the ritual, I wouldn't die right away. I'd still be around for a while." she finally said in a soft tone. "I get it though, I know being alone sucks. I told you I'd never leave you alone."
She took a deep breath quickly gathering her thoughts.
"And I wasn't lying. I meant it, I still do." the (H/C)-haired woman continued, a sad smile on her face. "I know I'd be lonely if you left, so.. I won't leave you if you don't want me to. I can't promise we'll stay by each other forever, but I won't do the ritual yet. Is that okay?"
"Really..?"
"Really."
"Thank you.." Shoko whispered, hugging (Y/N) tightly.
"Of course." she replied, reciprocating the hug.
The two friends continued going through the books and eventually finished reading all of them. Unfortunately, as (Y/N) had assumed, they hadn't found anything else that could be used for Nobara. Yet still, neither of them mentioned the ritual.
......
Upon receiving a text from Kusakabe saying that Gojo had a decent chance of winning, (Y/N) and Shoko went to join all the other students who were watching the fight. They arrived just in time to see the white-haired sorcerer use hollow purple, destroying Mahoraga and heavily injuring Sukuna.
"Did he-" the (H/C)-haired woman started.
"Yeah. Gojo won."
She wasn't sure who had answered her. Her thoughts were a mix of happiness and relief, as well as worry since she didn't know how they'd save Fushiguro. But he was smiling. Gojo had that victorious smile on his face and she couldn't help the smile slowing forming on hers.
Slash.
Her heart dropped. In an instant, all their smiles vanished.
"No.." (Y/N) breathed out and her body moved as if it had a mind of its own.
"(F/N) COME BACK!" someone screamed.
Her heart was beating faster than it ever had and her mind had gone blank as as she ran.
"Satoru.. No.." she said as she reached him. "No..."
It was even clearer from up close.
"YOU CAN'T LEAVE." the girl cried out, dropping to her knees beside the body. "YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO!"
She clung to his body, gripping his shirt tightly.
"YOU LIAR! YOU PROMISED YOU'D STAY WITH ME FOREVER." she yelled, tears pouring down her face. "WAKE UP! YOU SAID YOU'D COME BACK! YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME!"
Her body shook as she cried.
"Come back, please.." she whispered desperately.
Sukuna slowly walked towards them and stopped just a few steps behind, smirking.
"Enjoy." he said before switching with Fushiguro.
......
"Do you only ever read non-fiction?"
Fushiguro looked up from his book to see her questioning gaze and nodded.
"It's very you." (Y/N) smiled.
"What do you mean?" the boy asked.
"Like, I know you're only 12, but I already have a feeling you'll be a dark coffee drinker." she replied. "It just makes sense."
"I guess that makes sense." he said. "You do seem like the type of person that would enjoy dancing."
The (H/C)-haired girl chuckled.
"It's way better than being called someone who seems like the type of person to cry over everything."
"Did Gojo say that?" Megumi asked.
"Yep. Sounds like a Gojo thing to say doesn't it?" she replied, amused, to which he nodded.
"I don't agree with him." the dark-haired boy said after a while. "Neither of you seem like people that would ever cry."
"Yeah?" she said in a wondering tone before turning her attention back to the book she was holding.
