Chapter 15: Not a teacher

After a few hours of training, they all took a break and sat outside to eat lunch together.

"Tuna." Inumaki says to (Y/N).

"Yeah?"

The boy points to Okkotsu who practically chokes on his food.

"W-what?" he coughs out.

"Heyy, chill out." Maki says.

"You okay?" (Y/N) asks.

He nods in response.

"Oh yeah, Yuta wanted to know what you did. Since you're not a teacher." Panda suddenly remembers.

"I didn't- Well- It's just-" the boy tries explaining, making (Y/N) laugh.

"No, it's fine don't worry. It's a valid question, I'm not offended or anything." she says. "And to answer it, I'm basically a very improper sorcerer."

"Bonito flakes." Inumaki disagrees.

"Not in a bad way necessarily, I just don't have a set position."

"Why?" Okkotsu asks. "I feel like you'd make a good teacher."

"I'm flattered." the girl smiles. "But I'm not sure if my skill level is high enough for that, most of the students here are exceptional."

"So do you go out and exorcise curses as a job?" the dark-haired boy questions.

"Yeah, I do that, but it's not the only thing." she answers. "I was supposed to be a doctor like Shoko. At least that's what the school wanted. But I didn't want to, so I ended up where I am now. I do a little of everything, from missions to teaching and healing..."

"Oh, that's really cool!" Okkotsu exclaims. "But if you were supposed to be a doctor, do you use reverse curse technique?"

"Yup."

"Then how do you exorcise curses?"

"Two ways. First, with cursed tools, I'm sure you understand how that works by now. And second, well... It's a little hard to explain."

"It's really hard to understand too." Panda says.

"Huh?"

"The way I put it is using reverse curse technique against the curses. So like, curses are negative energy, right? And reverse curse technique is the opposite, so positive. By using positive energy, you can exorcise the negative one." (Y/N) explains. "I still haven't figured it out completely yet though. So it works much better on lower-level curses."

The four students stare at her.

"Yeah no. Still don't get it." Maki says, Panda and Inumaki nodding in agreement.

The girl sighs.

"To be honest, I don't really get it either."

She looks at Okkotsu who seems to be deep in thought.

"Although.. I have a feeling Yuta might be able to pull it off. And even better than me."

"Huh?!" the boy looks at her. 

"Now that's some high praise." Panda says.

"Salmon."

"Better not disappoint (L/N) now." Maki adds, an amused smile on her face.

"You can read minds too right?" the boy asks (Y/N), changing the subject. "And block it?"

"Yeah. But blocking it is a pain sometimes. I have to make physical contact with the person's forehead for about five seconds and concentrate. And then if I want to unblock it, I have to tap it." 

"She can fly too." Panda tells Okkotsu.

"Actually??"

"You didn't know?" Maki asks.

"No??"

"Really?" (Y/N) asks curiously. "Oh well."

"Something I never really understood was how reverse curse technique works on yourself." the green-haired girl says.

"Oh. Well, I'm not sure if it's the case for everyone, but I don't really think about it. Say I got a cut, it's gonna start healing itself pretty much automatically. But personally, I tend to hold the injured area so I can focus and make it heal quicker."

After that, their conversation went to Okkotsu and Inumaki's powers, Maki's favorite tools, Panda's fighting style, and their favorite foods until a certain someone appeared.

"I see you're all having fun, even without me!"

"Gojo!" Okkotsu exclaims.

"Hello." Panda says.

"Kelp." Inumaki greets.

"Hey." he grins. "You guys missed me?"

"No." Maki replies without hesitation, causing (Y/N) to laugh and Gojo to gasp dramatically.

"What about you (F/N) did you miss me?"

"N-"

The girl stops.

"I completely forgot about that." she says to herself before turning to the four students and Gojo. "I need to go somewhere, I'll be back soon. You guys have fun."

(Y/N)'s feet then leave the ground as she speeds away.

"Oh wow, she really can fly."

"Why do you look so surprised, we told you didn't we?" Maki replies.

"What was that though?" Panda asks. "She sure was in a hurry."

......

"This should be the place." (Y/N) thinks to herself before knocking.

Two girls open the door and their eyes widen as they see her.

"You're that girl!" the one with light brown hair says. "Mimiko, it's her!"

"Nanako, stop it."

"I guess I am." (Y/N) replies, an awkward smile on her face.

"Why are you here?" the girl with dark hair questions, looping a rope around her plushie's neck.

"I have no bad intentions." she answers. "I'm here to thank you both."

"For what?" Nanako asks.

"For being there for Suguru. I'm sure the two of you made his life much better after he left. I'm glad he wasn't alone. So thank you."

"Who are you? And how do you know Mr. Geto?" Mimiko asks again.

"I-" the older girl sighs, smiling slightly. "My name is (F/N) (L/N). That's all there is."

"You didn't even answer her question!" Nanako complains as she turns around to leave.

"Thank you both again." (Y/N) says, turning her head and giving them a kind smile. "Take care."

She then walks away, out of the two girls' sight.
