"What's this?"
(Y/N) had just returned from her business trip and wanted to pick up her report to update it when she saw a file that piqued her interest. This one stood out in the small room crammed with documents because of the two simple words on the cover.
"First years?" she mutters before opening it and seeing the date. "It's a recent one too. I was pretty sure Satoru had the one for this ye-"
Upon reading the first few sentences of the case, she paused. Generally speaking, it looked like an okay one for students, but something didn't feel right.
"Are the kids saving people that might not even be alive or-" she stops as realization hits her. "Don't tell me, there's no way."
With that, she notified Gojo and rushed to the address written on the file.
......
When she got there, she saw Fushiguro walking in her direction, with Itadori slumped on him.
"Megumi!" the girl calls out to catch his attention.
"(F/N)." he replies as he sees her.
"Where's Nobara? Are you all oka-"
(Y/N) froze seeing the pink-haired boy. She expected him to be in a not-so-good condition, but what she saw shocked her. There was a hole right through his chest where his heart should be.
"Put him on my back." the (H/C)-haired girl instructs after a few seconds of silence.
"I can-"
"Megumi it'll be quicker, please cooperate with me." (Y/N) says firmly. "Hold on to my arm."
And the boy did as he was told.
......
Soon enough, they got back to jujutsu tech. (Y/N) told Fushiguro to get some rest and they both went different ways. By the time she brought Itadori to Shoko's dissection room at the end of a long hallway, Gojo had arrived and was waiting.
"What happened?" he asks, seeing his student's body as (Y/N) laid it on a table.
"Special grade." she answers. "Did you get news about Nobara?"
"She'll be alright."
The (H/C)-haired girl lets out a small sigh of relief before gently covering Itadori and sitting down beside her partner.
"They got set up." she says quietly.
"I know." the white-haired sorcerer replies.
Just then, Ijichi walked in and color drained from his face when he saw the covered body.
"You don't need to look so panicked." (Y/N) says. "We know it wasn't your fault."
"I warned them that fighting was absolutely not an option." the suited man explains.
"It was planned."
"Huh!?"
She sighs as Gojo explains how the higher-ups, unhappy that Sukuna's vessel was alive, wanted to dispose of him while they were on business trips.
"But- No one knew there'd be a special grade!" Ijichi exclaims.
"Finding someone to blame is a pain." the while-haired sorcerer says, his expression darkening. "Maybe I should just kill all the higher-ups."
"You're not usually this emotional." Shoko remarks as she walks into the room. "Seems to me you've taken quite a liking to this student."
"Miss Ieri!"
"I've always been a nice guy who cares for his students."
"Don't torment Ijichi so much, he's got it rough having to be between us and the higher-ups." the long-haired girl adds before smiling at (Y/N). "Hi."
"Hi." the latter greets with a tired smile.
"So this is Sukuna's vessel." Shoko says, taking off the cloth covering Itadori's body. "I can take him apart as I please right?"
"Make sure to get good use out of him." Gojo answers.
"Oh, I will. Who do you think I am?" she retorts. "Would like to join (F/N)?"
"I'll take this one off. Thanks though."
With that, Shoko started preparing all the different tools she'd use. Just as she was about to get started, the very unexpected happened.
"Whoa, I'm completely naked."
"G-G-Gojo-san! H-H-H-He's alive!" Ichiji manages to stutter out in shock.
After starting for a few seconds, equally as shocked, (Y/N) and Gojo both let out a chuckle.
"Yuji. Welcome back!" the blindfolded man smiles as Shoko gives the student a shirt.
"Yeah! Good to be back." the pink-haired boy replies, sitting casually.
......
"Ugh. I'll have to revise the reports." Shoko complains while walking with her two coworkers.
"Actually, could you them as they are now?"
"(F/N)! We thought of the same thing!" Gojo happily exclaims.
She chuckles before continuing, seeing her friend's curious expression.
"It'd be better to give Yuji some time before he's targeted again."
The three of them talked a bit more before Shoko left for her office, leaving Gojo and (Y/N) together.
"You could be nicer to her y'know."
"What?"
"Shoko." the (H/C)-haired girl replies. "We were all classmates. And friends. It's not fair that you've been avoiding her."
"I haven't, I'm just busy with my life and she's busy with hers." the blindfolded man says in an overly cheery tone.
"Satoru, I know it still sucks. It hurts. But she lost him too. And it's not fair for her to be losing you as well."
......
Gojo's POV
Sometimes I can't help but wonder, if I didn't love her, would she have been like Shoko? Would I have distanced myself from her?
I mean I did try. But she stuck by, and we always came back together. Might be fate.
Maybe if I gave Shoko a chance we'd be close too, but even before. Suguru was my best friend. My only and very best friend. (F/N) was the sunlight that came in and became indispensable.
And Shoko, she's a friend. I care for and about her.
But she's not a part of me like they are.
"I know." I reply, looking at those beautiful (E/C) eyes. "But life's not fair."
Because if it was, none of us would have lost him.
(A/N): It's just a little bit early, but HAPPY NEW YEAR! Wishing all of you an amazing 2024!
