Chapter 12
'Baby girl,' someone murmured, breaking through into my consciousness. 'Can you open your eyes for me beautiful? I've brought someone who can help you. Please open your eyes for me.' I felt a feather light kiss on each of my cheeks before my eyes fluttered open. I was met with piercing green eyes and it sent fear slicing through my heart.
I let out a defenceless whimper and moved away from him as quickly as possible tangling myself in sheets and sending a blinding pain ricochetting up my left arm. I cowered against the headboard of the bed I strangely found myself in as I waited for Koron's first move.
'Leora, baby, look at me.' The voice pleaded and slowly I felt myself begin to uncurl.
'Breadon?'
'Hey,' he breathed, a relieved smile spreading across his face. 'You're safe, I promise.'
'Promises are empty words, they're just a different name for lies.' I answered darkly.
'I will earn your trust Leora.'
'No, you won't,' I shot back, glaring angrily at him. He let out a frustrated sigh and I watched as he ran his fingers through his dark hair. It was a trait I had seen Koron do many times before and I quickly felt the panic begin to rise in my chest again. Why did these two have to look so similar?
I tried to distract myself from him by averting my eyes but instead my eyes found another man in the room watching me with worried eyes.
'Who is that?' I asked cautiously and again I realised how dry my throat was.
'He's the pack doctor, Keller. He's here to help you,' Breadon explained but I eyed him carefully, not entirely sure of his intentions.
'Here Leora, why don't you drink some of this first,' Breadon said offering me a glass of water. I reached out with my good hand but struggled to hold the glass steady so he remained holding it.
'I can do it,' I hissed, focusing all my attention on keeping my hand steady.
'Of course,' Breadon replied tiredly, carefully removing his hand from the glass. Giving him one last look I lifted the glass to my lips and drank greedily. Even when I had drained the glass I still felt like I could dry up a lake with the thirst inside of me.
When I was done, Breadon took the glass from me and set it on the table beside the bed where there was a hot bowl of soup. I felt the hole in my stomach clench with need.
'The doctor's going to have a look at you first, then you can have something to eat,' Breadon explained, noticing my focus on the soup. 'How about we get you back under the covers, you're shivering.' I hadn't realised how cold I was until he mentioned it and I looked down to see my body trembling uncontrollably. I also realised how exposed I was under my torn and ripped dress.
Breadon was using his body to shield me from the other male's eyes and I could tell from the darkness in his own that he was keeping the wolf side of him in barely restrained control.
Slowly, I slid back down the bed where Breadon quickly covered me in the blankets again, placing pillows under my head so I could sit upright.
'Keller,' he called when I was settled, my injured arm resting uselessly against the covers. The doctor moved over to us cautiously and I despised the way he looked at me with such pity. He had no right to feel sorry for me, he had no right to assume that I wanted his sympathy.
'Good morning Luna,' he nodded respectfully and I felt the name sit uncomfortably in my chest.
'I'm not your Luna,' I replied flatly and Keller's eye quickly flashed to Breadon who was watching me closely but said nothing.
