In a breath Koron's looming figure was ripped from my line of sight. A slight brush of coarse fur the only sign that anyone had been above me only moments before. Suddenly, I was ripped from the forest floor and hauled into someone's side.
'Luna-' Steven started but he stopped when Breadon's wolf lunged dangerously close to Koron's neck. Breadon's brown wolf quickly righted itself when Koron made to do the same and I suddenly noticed the similarities in their movements. Their wolves were almost the same colour, the same size and they even had the same colour eyes. Neither could win, so it seemed inevitable that no matter the outcome they would both lose.
Koron's wolf managed to strike a blow, a deep cut stretching across Breadon's right shoulder and I cried out. Fear gripped my body from deep inside. Almost instinctual, as if the pain were my own. My cry was quickly swallowed by Breadon's furious growl. Steven caught me again when I tried to move to him but Breadon was already attacking his brother, his movements filled with his anger.
Despite everything, I knew I didn't want to see Breadon dead. He had to live.
'Steven, please you have to stop them,' I begged, feeling a rogue tear fall down my cheek, swiping at it angrily. 'They're going to kill each other.'
'I cannot step in Luna,' he answered, emotionlessly, his eyes blank as he watched his Alpha and his Beta tear away pieces of each other. 'Beta Koron has made a threat on your life and in doing so he challenged the Alpha. Alpha Breadon cannot allow him to get away with such an act of treachery.'
Casting him angry glare I looked back at the two wolves. I tried to break free of Steven's hold but he did not move. Instead, I was forced to watch the two warring brothers. Praying one would concede before they both did something that could never be undone.
Somehow, Breadon had managed to pin his brother beneath him, his teeth bared and his fur standing on end. Koron did not concede, he didn't even flinch as his brother growled dangerous in his face.
Again, the air in the forest grew still and any animal that still remained seemed to stop living all together as Breadon's growls ripped through the silence.
I held my own breath in anticipation, clutching tightly to Steven's arm my attention trapped on Breadon.
Without warning, a sharp pain tore through my chest and I crumpled in Steven's hold. My knees hit the ground as something akin to a hook seemed to latch onto my heart and tug. In an instant my eyes snapped open, alert and searching. The pull within me became more insistent, more unbearable. I searched the trees until my vision blurred, the fight between the two brothers all but forgotten.
Then, my vision went black before flashing to a girl in a different part of the forest. Immediately, I knew who she was and I felt my heart race. What was she doing in that part of the forest? Why was she alone?
I tried to call out to her but I had no voice. She just kept walking, her dress leaving a rain of glitter behind among the fallen leaves. Her eyes were blank, her footsteps mechanical as if she had no control of them at all, but she seemed to be walking towards something.
Anxious to get to her I tried to move but the vision wasn't mine, my body wasn't my own. I felt excitement coursing through me and I wondered where this feeling had come from.
In the eyes of another I tried to see the rest of the forest, I tried to see where she was walking to but there was nothing but empty trees.
Then they were there. Hidden among the darkness just like the night he had captured me. Glowing red eyes, floating in the darkness, watching, waiting. My heart all but stopped, my body falling into a blind panic before I realised I was back in the clearing but the eyes still lingered.
