Chapter 3
When he brought me outside the house I shied away from the bright light of the afternoon sun. I hadn’t been outside since my first and only attempted escape. I hadn’t been allowed to shift and I felt the wolf inside of me getting restless.
However, once the brightness began to dim and my eyes started to adjust I felt a breath lodge in my throat and I unknowingly tried to pull free from his hold earning me a threatening growl from Colby. It was low enough for only me to hear but I knew the others could sense his agitation. I saw the men surrounding the house shift uncomfortably, but they wouldn’t raise their eyes to their alpha. Even his own pack feared him.
There were around twenty men outside and I knew it wasn’t the whole pack but it was enough to deter me from even contemplating running. Although, they weren’t the reason my blood was running cold, not their rough exteriors, nor the intimidating image they brought to mind, but instead it was the men who were chained at their feet, bloodied and bruised. There were five men, covered in bite marks and scratches that still wept rivers of blood over their naked bodies. I tried to avert my eyes from them but one of them held mine with an intensity I couldn’t turn away from. He seemed different from the other prisoners. Whilst another, younger wolf, beside him fought against the chains that bound him. The others seemed to be slumped in defeat at the feet of their captors.
All except the man in the middle who held his head high against his captors. I could tell none of these men were joining this pack of their own free will.
I saw the green eyes of the man in the middle flicker to my wrist still held tightly in Colby’s hand and I turned my head in shame. I could only imagine what he thought of me, but I was grabbed roughly by my chin and spun back to face alpha Colby in an instant, stopping all thoughts.
‘Do no disrespect me,’ he warned, before releasing my chin causing me to stumble at the top of the stairs and my eyes to immediately fall to the ground, my head bowed lowly.
‘Welcome new wolves,’ his voice boomed and I glanced up to see every head bowed, his voice anything but welcoming. My eyes again rested on the green eyed man who seemed to be nursing a dislocated shoulder but had far fewer scratches and bite marks on him than his fellow prisoners.
‘You have been given the honour to join the Red Curse pack,’ he continued and I fought the urge to scoff at his obvious lies. Unfortunately, the green eyed man didn’t share my restraint and let his laughter ring out through the clearing, stunning the gathered wolves into silence.
‘Do you have something to say, alpha Adam?’ Colby taunted from beside me, his body tensing and his skin rippling with his restrained anger and distain for the man in front of him.
‘It is no honour to join your pack,’ alpha Adam spat, remaining still in his chains as those beside him shifted uncomfortably. The youngest werewolf had finally given up fighting and was instead staring at the alpha in disbelief. ‘I will never be under the command of a man or wolf, who steals another’s mate-‘
‘I have stolen nothing,’ alpha Colby growled, pushing me behind him as his skin began to ripple with more ferocity.
‘You can’t even tell one truth, because that girl you are hiding is not yours,’ alpha Adam continued calmly. ‘Your family has been cursed since the beginning, that your line will never have a true mate.’
‘She is my mate,’ alpha Colby roared, falling on all fours as his body began to shift. I watched in horror as black fur began to spread across his body and his limbs started to distort until the only thing remaining where the man once stood was a black wolf. His fur so dark it was as if it were swollowing the colors which surrounded it, making the world duller than it was before.

Loup-garou'So,' I started, unsure of how to approach this new Colby. 'Are you letting me go?' 'No,' he growled and I watched as his eyes darkened, but they didn't turn charcoal and I could tell he was more in control than he ever had been before. 'You can nev...
