Chapter 24
It was dark by the time I decided I should go back to the pack house. Leo and Josie had to get to work not long after they helped me escape the diner so I spent the rest of my day coasting around town looking like a creeper but I couldn't risk going back to the pack house and seeing all those people again.
I tightened my hold on my cardigan as the wind started to blow a little more harshly and I felt myself begin to tremble. My feet were tired from walking all day and I thought maybe some of my toes were numb from the cold. I would have brought a jacket with me but all the ones Breadon had given me had been ruined the night before by my not so mysterious attackers. As I got closer to the house I felt a nervousness begin to grow in my stomach. The lights were all on and I wondered just how late it was, would anyone still be awake?
Feeling my body start to shake uncontrollably I tried to slow my steps but I was so cold and couldn't help but speed up until I was at my destination in no time. Hating how small I felt in the glow of the house I tried to square my shoulders as I approached, but it did little to calm me.
Taking a deep breath I placed my hand on the handle before I begrudgingly pushed down. Immediately, I was engulfed with warmth. I looked down to see that my hands and knees had turned blue and glancing at the mirror in the hall told me my lips were too. My nose and cheeks had turned pink as well.
Quickly returning to my senses, I looked around the hall and saw that no one was around and breathed a sigh of relief before I headed for the stairs.
I was just heading up the last set of stairs when a bunch of guys started coming down and I froze on the third step.
'Hey look boys, it's our Luna,' one of them sneered as they all stopped a few stairs above me.
'God, you're so pathetic all the other packs will laugh at our misfortune,' another scoffed, my skin crawling with their remarks.
'For all we know she is a traitor.'
'I've heard the Red Alpha like to have a little fun with her,' one jibbed and I felt my stomach roll.
'Carlton's a fool for ever marking her as his, you'd never catch me laying claim to a slut like her. I'd reject her.'
'Well, maybe you should join the Red Curse pack then,' I spat feeling anger start to boil in me.
'What did you say?' The man growled, his muscles bunching as his fists tightened at his sides.
'You hold the same philosophy as many of the members in the Red Curse pack so maybe you should join them,' I repeated, feeling my fists start to curl and my eyes narrow.
'You'd know all about them wouldn't you?' One spat. 'Nothing but a filthy traitor, no wonder our alpha is keeping you at a distance.'
'You don't know what you're talking about,' I shot back, feeling the burn of tears in my eyes.
'I know you're too weak to hold the position of Luna,' he hissed. 'Come on boys, let's show her the respect she deserves.' I bristled as they started to move down the stairs again and each and everyone of them made sure to bump me on the way past until finally only the one who I had answered back to was left.
'Trash,' he muttered, before he shoved me hard enough to knock me off balance so I tumbled down the three steps I had climbed, my head slamming against the wall at the bottom causing stars to fill my vision. I heard him chuckle with his friends as they disappeared onto the boys floor, my body aching and tears starting to slide down my cheeks.
'Luna, what happened?' Joey asked worriedly coming out of nowhere and picking me up off the floor.
'Nothing,' I dismissed, forcing his hands from me and moving to storm up the stairs.
