Chapter 44
Leora
This was the last place I wanted to be. I just hoped my tough exterior was holding up because inside I was trembling like a skyscraper in an earthquake.
What was he doing here?
I didn't care what Michael said. There was no way he had changed enough to not be a threat. The Red Alpha was always in control. I just hoped when things turned ugly, I had enough strength to subdue him.
He was close to my side, his fur brushing against me, a constant reminder of his presence. It was corse against my skin and sent waves of disgust through me. I didn't want to be here. I didn't want to do this.
I finally came to a stop beside a particularly thick looking tree and rested my back against it. He stopped moments later, his giant head turning to mine before he cocked it to the side, watching me.
"Why couldn't you leave me be?" I finally spoke. My voice was hoarse and my hands were sweaty but he continued to regard me with his murky brown eyes. It was like looking into a muddy river and trying to see what lay beneath.
Michael stood off to the side, watching his Alpha closely. His shoulders were tense and his fists were clenched, waiting.
Suddenly, he turned to face Michael and nodded in the direction of a cluster of trees to my right. Then the two disappeared behind them only to return moments later with Colby walking by Michael's side.
His eyes never left mine. My body was frozen with the memories of the man striding towards me. His inky hair that hung past his shoulders and his intimidating form that caused my heart to both leap and stop, all at once.
When he was within reaching distance of me, he stretched out his arm to pull me in and my body leapt into action. I sidestepped his hold as I squeaked out a strangled, "No". My footsteps crunched loudly against the silence that hung between the three of us and I stood equal distance from both men. I wasn't going to be cornered.
"Why are you doing this? Why couldn't you just leave me be?" I spoke, anxious to quell the silence. He seemed to thrive on the quietness, knowing that it only increased the fear of those he faced in battle.
"I have come to return you to your home." I couldn't restrain the derisive noise that bubbled in my throat only to freeze and glance in his direction, anticipating his anger, but instead being met with a strange expression.
"And where is it you think my home is?" I continued, my nerves so rattled I was finding it impossible to filter my words and approach him like the ticking time bomb he was.
"By my side." He shifted his feet almost as if he were uncertain and it felt like the world had tilted beneath my feet.
"Why?"
"Because you are mine. Because I can't live without you. Because you were the only good thing about me in my entire life and I want to feel that again."
"Don't feed me lies, Colby." I spat, shaking my head as the memories of my stay in the Red Curse pack surfaced at the front of my mind. "I was a possession to you. Someone you could control and then parade around for others to see. You know nothing about me."
"Please, Leora," he began, taking several steps in my direction and I fought the urge to take several more back. There was a look in his eye that told me he wasn't dangerous but I knew it would only take a second to light the red fire inside his eyes and for him to become the murderous beast that had been cursing his family for hundreds of years. "I know I was wrong last time. I want to be different. Please let me show you how I have changed. I am consumed by you, Leora. I-I don't think I could lift a hand against you."

Hombres Lobo'So,' I started, unsure of how to approach this new Colby. 'Are you letting me go?' 'No,' he growled and I watched as his eyes darkened, but they didn't turn charcoal and I could tell he was more in control than he ever had been before. 'You can nev...
