Chapter 16
'Luna?' One of the twins prompted nervously. 'Wouldn't you be more comfortable on the bed?'
'No,' I answered flatly, glaring across the hall at Breadon's doors. I had plunked myself down at the very threshold of my room, just toeing the line of my prison. I had been here for over an hour, listening to the ebb and flow of an argument Breadon had been having with Koron. It didn't appear that either was making any headway. The sun had already started to rise and they were still shouting and growling at one another.
'Luna, I must insist-'
'Shut up,' I grumbled and tweedle dumb quickly snapped his mouth closed. 'I won't take orders from you.'
'He wasn't trying-' The other tried to argue but he also quickly fell silent when I shifted my gaze to him, both brothers staring at me with a mix of fear and concern.
I didn't say anything after that and neither did they. They were very focused on their task but I still didn't trust them. They were the reason my wrist was still in a cast, they, along with Koron were the reason I couldn't trust Breadon.
I continued to sit on the hardwood floor, not caring how uncomfortable it was or how strange I looked doing it. Locking me up just proved what I've always known. There's no strength in promises and no truth in Breadon's words.
Several minutes later I heard soft footsteps down the end of the hallway and I frowned slightly, pushing forward to look outside my prison. I noticed the tweedle twins tense beside me but I paid them no attention. Instead, my focus was on the little girl in the princess dress skipping down the hall. I watched her closely, wondering how she had ended up here of all places. I didn't say anything when she spotted me watching her and instead of looking scared at seeing me her face broke out into a wide smile, her familiar green eyes sparkling as brightly as her bright blue dress.
'Hello,' she greeted brightly coming to a halt in front of me, not even acknowledging my prison guards who eyed her warily. 'My name's Kora,' she introduced sticking her hand out for me to take.
'Leora,' I answered weakly, taking her tiny hand in mine. She had beautiful golden curls falling in short ringlets around her face with a delicate tiara resting among them.
'Hey, our names rhyme.' She giggled, bouncing on her sparkling silver flats.
'Kora, does your father know you're here?' One of the interrupting killjoys asked causing a deep frown to fall across her delicate face.
'Uncle Bray said I had to wait in the living room but I got bored and daddy was really upset.'
'Uncle Bray?' I muttered, looking more intently at the young girl. I couldn't believe I hadn't seen it sooner. She had the exact same eyes as Koron and Breadon only they were filled with light where her uncle's and father's were filled with an unmovable darkness.
'I don't like it when uncle Bray and daddy fight,' she pouted, before she reached out for my hand tugging at it gently.
'Kora, you should go back to where the alpha directed you to be,' the twin to my left chastised.
'No, I have places to be, people to see,' she answered defiantly, tugging on my arm again. 'Come on Leora I want to show you something.'
'Our Luna is not to leave this room without Alpha Breadon's express permission.'
'Why?' Kora frowned looking between me and one of the twins. I really needed to learn which one was which. 'Are you grounded?' She whispered, leaning in close as if she could hide her words from the two hulking wolves by our sides.
