Chapter 26
Pain stabbed at me from every angle, my body throbbing with the overwhelming beat of my heart. What felt like moments later the door burst open again, but it hurt too much to raise my head and see who it was. I could hear shouting over the rush of the water but it was almost impossible to make the words out. I heard a loud crash then heavy footsteps started heading in my direction. I tried to curl up, hiding my body from whomever it was but even I knew the effort was in vain.
The door to the shower was slowly pulled open and I smelt a scent that caused a wave of relief to rush through my body. For a moment, I was allowed the luxury of a breath and I looked up to see familiar green eyes coming closer to me. They were filled with pain, anger and something else all together.
'Baby,' he breathed and the pain inside of me flared again, a terrified scream escaping my lips. The mark on my neck felt as if a hot iron had been placed on it, branding my skin.
'Make it stop,' I gasped, clawing at my arms.
'I'm here now baby girl,' Breadon soothed, stepping inside the shower, not even flinching as he was soaked by the stream of freezing water. 'Everything's going to be all right.'
'It's so hot,' I muttered, his hands reaching out and resting against my sides. My body almost instantly felt relief, the flames of the fire inside of me seeming to ebb away but still lingered, threatening to burn again.
'Come here,' he cooed but I was incapable of moving an inch. 'I can ease the pain baby, please.'
'I can't,' I whispered water covering my words, a shot of pain ripping through my body and I forced his hands from my skin.
'Baby please, let me help you,' he begged, a hint of desperation in his tone.
'What's happening?' I sobbed. 'Why does it hurt?'
'I marked you Leora and it's the first full moon. You're in heat,' he explained, reaching for me again.
'What?'
'Didn't your mother ever explain this to you?'
'She barely spoke to me.'
'Of course,' he muttered sadly, sliding my body away from the heated tiles and out from under the stream of water.
'No,' I muttered weakly, my body igniting again. His hands against my bare skin seemed to quell some of the pain but I felt a strange sensation building inside of me. The overwhelming urge to kiss him almost overpowering every thought in my mind.
'You're all right baby, everything is going to be fine.'
'I-I need...I can't...' I frowned, my chest becoming impossibly tight as my hands fumbled along his wet shirt, until my hands gripped his collar, tugging desperately.
'Leora, baby please stop,' he ordered his voice strained, his eyes flashing black before returning to their brilliant green.
'Breadon, I need...' What did I need?
'Leora, stop,' he groaned, using one hand to pull my hands away when I tried to push them under his shirt.
'Make it stop,' I begged, trying to reach for him again. 'I'm burning.'
'I know,' he growled and I felt my wolf brush against the edges of my mind, demanding to be let free. His hand let me go for a moment before I was cradled in his arms, crying out as he put unwanted pressure on my ribs.
He bristled at my cry but didn't hesitated to move from the bathroom and back into my bedroom. In his arms I nearly felt human but I could feel the pain and heat lying beneath the surface just waiting to return.
