Chapter 38
After a brief, shocked silence, the room quickly descended into chaos. Most of the Alphas were on their feet and were shouting at one another, whilst I sat frozen. I didn't know what to do. Everyone seemed to be yelling and shouting and calling for my head. Most were pointing at me with murder in their eyes. Whilst some just glared at me with raw hatred. Everyone seemed to have a furious, anger-filled reaction. Everyone, but Breadon. He stood stoically beside me as if his skin had turned to stone and he had no choice but to stand there.
I wanted to run, I needed to escape but if there was even a chance that Breadon might still want me, I was going to take it. I didn't want to believe that he didn't want me anymore. I didn't want to accept that he thought I had stolen something from him.
'Breadon,' I began, just loud enough to be heard over the Alphas and he cut me off before I could even start to beg.
'Is it true?' he asked, a cold edge to his voice that I could see had already spread quickly through the rest of his body.
'I-I...'
'Is it true?' He demanded, his words short and his fists clenched tightly by his sides.
'Yes,' I answered, defeated. My head hung loosely in front of me as my guilt consumed me. 'I-I know I should have told you sooner but-'
'Steven.' He called and my eyes shot to Steven's as he approached. What was Breadon going to do with me?
'She needs to be sent back to him. For all, we know she's the reason our pups are going missing. You've been harbouring the devil's prize all this time,' one of them spat and the others were quick to agree.
'I'm not a prize.'
'We should take her to the boundary line and end her life like he has ended so many of our own.' Another shouted and suddenly it felt as if the room was closing in on me. The walls were creeping closer and the Alphas even more so. Terrence was watching me with a devilish smile whilst Scott was sitting back in his chair contently. Seemingly happy to sit back and watch my world burn.
Steven was getting closer and deep down I knew I didn't want to be in his arms. I knew if he had me it was all over. I knew because I had seen it in Breadon's eyes. I had seen the betrayal and the hurt I had caused. I could see him fighting with himself, with the bond that we shared. He was trying to protect himself, and the only danger he could see was me.
'Breadon, please,' I begged, reaching for him in my last effort to convince him of my innocence.
'Don't,' he growled, reeling back from me as if my skin would burn him.
'No,' I breathed, feeling the tears start to gather in my chest. It wouldn't be too long before they spilt from my eyes. I was falling to pieces and the Alphas in the room were more than willing to help pull me apart, then burn the remains.
'Take her to the cells,' Breadon ordered and suddenly, I felt a switch inside of me flip. I couldn't go back there, I just couldn't.
My eyes snapped to Steven as he reached out for me and in an instant, I was on my feet.
'No,' I shouted, baring my teeth as he tried to grab me again. I was not going back to that place. 'You don't understand.'
'Leora, stop this,' Breadon commanded, but that only made my heart beat faster. My eyes darted to his for a second, before I was searching the room again.
Steven stepped closer and I took a step towards the door. Joey stood helpless, as several of Breadon's other warriors pinned him back. I could feel the familiar stirrings beneath my skin and for a moment I thought about trying to do to them what I had done to Joey. Then I realised I would be doing exactly what they were accusing me of. I would only confirm their suspicions and Breadon would never trust me again.
