Chapter 10: The Things You Do For Love

Maloi's POV

"So, ano kayo?" Sheena asked while sipping on her dutchmill drink. We're walking our way to the village's gym kasi maglalaro si Colet at Mikha. May mga dayo raw kasi. Hindi naman kami marunong ni Sheena kaya taga-cheer nalang kami.

"Masaya?" sagot ko na parang tanong ko rin sa sarili ko. Mikha and Colet shook their head habang si Sheena ay tumawa lang.

"Ano, sinabi na ba niya na she likes you?" Mikha asked, while fixing her hair.

"Secret. I don't kiss and tell." I answered but I can't stop grinning remembering what Stacey just told be last night.

"Mama mo I don't kiss and tell! You're too obvious." Colet deadpanned.

Ayaw ko naman talagang sumama, pinilit lang ako nitong tatlo. Maglalaro raw kasi si Gwen kaya sumama si Sheena. Ilang beses akong tumanggi at ang mga leche kong kaibigan, binuhat ako palabas. Hindi na ako nakalaban.

Narinig kong suminghap si Sheena, tumigil siya sa paglalakad kaya tumigil din kaming tatlo. Sinundan namin kung saan siya nakatingin, nadoon na pala ang girlfriend niya. Nag w-warm up na.

"Grabe, ang ganda niya kahit pawisan." Nagniningning pa ang mga mata niya. Binatukan ko siya, ang corny niya kasi.

"Corny mo!" I exclaimed.

"Aray! At least hindi ako manhid!" Hinihimas pa niya ang binatukan ko.

"Sino bang manhid?" Tanong ko.

"Si Mikha Lim at Colet Vergara." Sheena teased.

"Tsk, dinamay niyo na naman ako. Tara na nga, pinagtitinginan na kayo oh." Pagkatapos sabihin ni Colet 'yon ay iniwan niya kami.

When we reached the court, I saw familiar faces. Mostly teammates lang din ni Colet. Gwen joined too at napansin kong kulang pa ng isa.

"Sinong kulang? Maglalaro ka Shee?" I asked Sheena.

"Hindi. Kita mong hindi ako naka-uniform eh." she shook her head at tumabi kay Gwen.

"Eh sinong kulang?" I asked.

"Me." I heard a voice from my back. When I turned around, napatigil ako. Oo nga pala, she likes to explore things. "Hi!" she waved her hands at me and smiled cutely. Grabe ang ganda niya!

"Hello!" I greeted shyly. Kahit si Maloi ako, medyo nahihiya pa rin ako sa kanya. Napapaisip tuloy ako kung paano ko hahawakan kamay niya pag kami na.

I heard a loud whistle kaya umupo na ako sa tabi ni Sheena na titig na titig kay Gwen. Napa-iling nalang ako. Bro is down bad. Hindi naman 'to ganito dati. Among the four of us, she's the player and rule breaker. The things you do for love nga naman.

I looked at Stacey, the girl who got my heart. She's the one serving now. She positioned herself and did the overhand serve. When she got an ace, she jumped while clapping her hands. Para siyang bata, hindi intimidating. Ang cute lang.

"Tyamba!" Sheena shouted pero siniko ko siya at sinamaan ng tingin.

As the sunlit gymnasium echoed with the rhythmic thuds of the volleyball hitting the floor, my gaze couldn't help but gravitate toward her. Lost in the ebb and flow of the game, found myself entranced by the way she moved - a symphony of grace and determination. With each jump, each fluid motion, my mind wandered into a world of its own creation.

I watched as she spiked the ball over the net, and in my mind's eye, our eyes met in a fleeting yet electrifying connection. Kinikilig ako!

But even in the midst of my daydream, a part of me was aware that this world I had spun was merely a tapestry of wishes. As the match came to an end and reality reclaimed its hold, I couldn't help but smile, thankful for the temporary escape my thoughts provided. And while the daydream may have dissolved, the feelings of admiration and wonder lingered, ready to inspire the next flight of fancy.
