Ezara POV
"Is he... dead?" Mazavir asks. He looked frazzled and confused. He stared down at Vexel's lifeless body.
Vayle steps away from us. She looked just as shocked as Mazavir. She looked as if she was about to say something. She then creates a portal an disappears through it.
I lean down beside Vexel's lifeless form. "I think he's still alive." I say, shocked myself.
"I can't believe you did that... I never thought you'd be the one to kill him. If anything, I thought Lilith would've been the one." I look up at him.
"He's not dead. Why would you think that?" Mazavir shrugs. I put pressure on the sword wound in Vexel's chest.
"I don't know. To me he seemed untouchable, I couldn't even hurt him, let alone kill him. Lilith is a demon. If anyone could kill him, it would be her. You stabbed him." I take a deep breath.
"He was going to kill you." I state.
Mazavir opens his mouth to talk but then shuts it. I look down at Vexel. His blood covered my hands. I pause, dread building up in my chest. It was only now hitting me that it was I who stabbed him. My sword laid on the ground beside him. "We need to get him somewhere." I state. "I don't know how to help him."
"I... don't know either. We're not close enough to Carrigar, or any other town." He was right. Even if we got him on one of our horses, he still wouldn't survive.
Vexel inhales sharply and I see his eyes flutter open. He looks at me, then at Mazavir. His eyes linger as Mazavir stands over us. He coughs, spitting up blood.
"Easy, you're hurt." I say calmly. He pushes me away and sits up.
"I heal fast." He says. His voice was rugged and raspy. I move my hands away from him. He moves the fabric to take a look at the wound.
Right before our eyes, the wound stitches itself back together. The same dark goo that he used against Vayle and Mazavir seemed to seep from his skin and pull the torn flesh together. The skin then seals itself and the goo seeps back into his skin, disappearing. I shake at the sight of it.
"You're not human, are you?" Mazavir asks him. "Are you a Nephalem?" Vexel shakes his head and stands up.
"I am human." He says, as if annoyed by the question. "However, what I can do doesn't concern you." He turns and starts walking away from us.
"You're going the wrong way. Balkins camp is that way." I say, pointing in the opposite direction. "Maybe you need some rest before we go."
"No. I'm not going." I pause, looking over at Mazavir who just shrugs.
"What do you mean? You said you'd help." Vexel pauses, looking back at us.
"Mazavir lead Vayle right to us. She knows what we were trying to do. I'm sure Balkin already knows we're on our way. There's no point. This is why I didn't want to get involved with any of this. I'm going back to Fractured Peaks." I take a deep breath.
"Fine, Vexel. We'll do this without you." I state, looking over at Mazavir. "Come on." I mount my horse and Mazavir does the same. I look back at Vexel in the distance one last time then shake my head.
"I think we should wait before going after Balkin." I state. "You need training and he's right. They're probably waiting for us."
"Vayle. What do you think of her?" I just shrug.
"She works for Lilith. It doesn't matter what I think. It won't be an easy battle if we run into her at Balkin's camp." I pause. "Go back to Carrigar. I'll meet you there." I say, turning my horse around.
