Mazavir POV

"Why are you wasting your time on them? On her?" I hear a voice from behind me. I tense up once I realize who it was. "They're only wasting time. You all have different goals that will only get in the way of each other."

I turn towards the strange necromancer. "Ezara and I have the same goals; defeat Lilith. You can't just come here and act like we're not enemies."

"I can, and I will." She responds, almost sounding like an innocent child. She leans against my horse. "What are you going to do about it? Attack me?" I don't respond. "I could kill you in an instant, but I haven't." She moves away from the horse, walking in front of me. "I don't believe we have to be enemies, you and I."

"What's that supposed to mean? You follow Lilith, I hate her." I cross my arms. "Everything you stand for, I hate."

"I'm not Lilith. You're not Vexel." She states. "We aren't each other's affliction." I take a deep breath.

"I won't allow you to use me to get to Vexel. As twisted and messed up he is, I'd rather not see one of Lilith's minions kill him. At least he's not helping Lilith destroy Sanctuary." I walk over to my horse, tending to it.

Vayle laughs behind me. "I don't want to destroy Vexel. I could care less about him. I'm with Lilith because she will save Sanctuary from the Eternal Conflict. If she wants me to end him, I'll do it. If she thinks it'll protect Sanctuary. However, I wouldn't mind being the one to kill him."

"Lilith isn't a saint. There's a reason I'm going after her." Vale walks up beside me and leans against the horse again.

"Nor is Vexel. There's a reason he doesn't pick sides. He doesn't feel right choosing Lilith's side but he isn't entirely against her ways. He knows sometimes some have to die for the greater good. You understand that, don't you?"

"Some have to die, yes, but not be murdered in cold blood because I won't follow Lilith." Vayle pauses.

"Murdered? Lilith wouldn't kill her children unless it was necessary. She must've seen something in you." I scoff.

"No. She just wanted to punish me for refusing. She is going to regret that." Vayle puts a finger on my chin, forcing me to look at her.

"She wants you to be Sanctuary's protector. Sanctuary won't follow her, at least not everyone. She wants you to protect them from the prime evils, from the angels. From anyone who wants to destroy it. I'm not fit for the job, and humans won't follow a demon." Vayle pauses. "That was her plan for you. That is your destiny."

"If that was her plan, she made a mistake killing everyone I care about. I'm not here to protect Sanctuary, I'm here to destroy Lilith. Ezara is the only one with truly good intentions." I climb into my horse's saddle.

"Who has good intentions in a world like this? Sometimes I'm not sure if angels are supposed to be the good ones. They're just as human as us." I look down at Vayle. She looks up at me with her evil looking eyes. Despite that, she had another look there. One I couldn't quite place.

"No one's perfect." I respond. "We're all half Angel half demon. I believe none of us are truly good or truly bad."

"Then why do you hate me?"

"I... I never said that. I don't think we should associate with each other. We aren't on the same side."

She crosses her arms. "We could be. You just won't get over your feelings."

I hesitate. "That's different. You probably have your own reason for hating Vexel. I have my reasons for hating Lilith."

"You don't exactly like Vexel either. He almost killed you twice." She gives me a slight smirk.
