Vexel POV
"Vexel?" I hear a familiar voice say. I turn to see the familiar figure of Ralmalani. "I thought I might find you here." I was standing at the entrance to Necropolis. I was debating whether I should speak with Morkil again or if I should consult with Rathma.
"Ral?" I ask in return. "Why are you here?"
"I came looking for you." She says. "Mother wanted to speak to you. She said there were a few things she had kept from you that she thinks you should now learn."
"What do you mean?" I ask. I walk over to her.
"She won't tell Arid or I." Ralmalani states. "She wants to see you and tell you herself." I nod.
It could be some sort of trap, but Ralmalani and Arid are my family, even if I'm not close to them. Ralmalani showed no signs that would tell me otherwise.
"Alright, let's hear what she has to say."
~~~~~~~~
Ralmalani opens the door to her home and I follow her in. Arid and mother were waiting. "That was fast." Arid states. "I thought it would take twice as long."
"Turns out Vexel can create portals." Ralmalani says.
"Portals? He's just full of surprises." Arid responds, shaking his head. "Why did you bring him, Ral?"
"It was my request." Mother says, sitting down on their couch. "Join me, my son." I glance at Arid and Ralmalani, they just shrug.
I hesitantly take a seat beside her. She grabs my hand in hers. I didn't pull away. "What is this about?" I ask.
"It's about the secrets your father and I have kept from you." I raise an eyebrow. "I'm not sure you remember, but I never said much about your father. I always kept his identity hidden from you."
"I don't remember him at all, if I've ever met him." I say.
"Because of who your father is, we've both decided to keep your life separate from his." She releases my hand and looks in my eyes. "He is powerful. I knew you would be too. Him and I made a decision to let you chose your own path, no matter what that was."
"That's why we've condoned you for wanted to learn necromancy." Arid steps in. "He was a powerful necromancer."
Mother glances at him and nods. "He was." She states. "And you look just like him. I think you already know who it is by what we've said."
"Rathma." I state. "The necromancer I thought was simply guiding me. I sought him out because I knew he was the best." I take a deep breath. "Why reveal this now? Why was it kept from me for so long?"
"Rathma foresaw challenges, prophecies that could alter destinies. We wanted you to choose your own path, unburdened by the expectations tied to his name." Mother states. "You're old enough now to realize your own path. You chose necromancy because it runs in your blood."
"We've tried to protect you from it, stray you away from the path of necromancy." Ralmalani says. "However, we knew this would eventually come out. We were just waiting for the right time to tell you."
"You connection to Rathma was deeper then we thought." Mother states. "That's why the pool of souls connected you to him."
I stand up from the couch. "How do you know about the Undercity?"
"When I was younger, Rathma showed it to me." Mother states. "He brought me there when we decided to keep his identity a secret from you. He told me that he wanted you to know if you ever discovered the Undercity. I felt a stir in the world when you and your friends used it. Rathma wasn't the only one who could sense the essence in the living and dead."
