Mazavir POV

"Come on, let's go." Ezara says, walking forward. Dead branches crackle beneath her feet. "Tell me what happens, start from the beginning."

I take a deep breath. "It was a normal day." I start, nervous to continue on. "I got up like normal and made us some food to eat."

"You and Lyzla?" She asks, glancing back at me. I nod and start waking forward.

"Yeah, Lyzla and I. After we ate, we went outside. We would always watch the kids play. They would play hide and seek, or pretend to fight. We knew them too, sometimes they would come and we'd give them treats. Lyzla loved to play with them, I always just watched. Anyway, we went out and the kids played like normal. From a distance we heard screams and so we urged the kids inside. We all took care of each other here. If there was trouble, it didn't matter who took the kids in, as long as they were with someone and they were safe."

"It sounds like it was a nice place to raise a family. It seemed... peaceful." Ezara comments as we continue on. The dead landscape gave way to destroyed buildings. Ezara peeks into the nearest one. It was nearly all the way burnt down. Very little of the walls still stood.

"It was. Everyone was very kind, that's why I never learned to fight. I never thought I'd need to. Lyzla claimed she could protect us and we al just assumed it so. She held this scythe like it was a part of her. She knew how to use it well." I pause, my voice a little shaky. I clear my throat. "First the demons came. They got a few people but Lyzla fended them off. After a while, they just kept coming and kept picking us off. There were a few people who stood with Lyzla to fend off the demons, but it wasn't enough. Once the demons eased, we thought it was over..." Again, I take a deep breath. "Then Lilith came. She appeared right in front of Lyzla, throwing her aside like she was nothing. She grabbed Lyzla, and she fixated on me."

Ezara had stopped and she was watching my every move. I could see the look on her face. She knew how this story ended before I could even finish telling it. "She used Lyzla against me. She tried to get me to join her. The demons kept coming. They got inside the homes, burning them all down. When I refused, Lilith killed Lyzla without a second warning. Without thought or remorse. She killed Lyzla and simply left."

"She didn't ask you again? Just like that? She wanted you to join, you refused so she killed Lyzla. Why didn't she just kill you?" Ezara asks.

"She said to me "you don't know it now, but one day you will see your mistakes and you'll save Sanctuary with me." At that, she left and the demons attacked me. Lilith ordered them to not kill me for some reason. I still don't understand why." Ezara was silent.

"After that, what happened?" She finally breaks the silence.

"I awoke, covered in ash. Lyzla's Scythe was on the ground a few feet from me. I stood and picked up her scythe. At that time, the demons were gone and there was no sign of Lilith ever being there. Other than that, it was all just destruction and burnt corpses. Some of them, I recognized, some were beyond recognition." Ezara pauses, walks up to me and wraps her arms around me.

"I'm sorry about that." She says, releasing me. I didn't fight her. I needed that hug more than I realized. "I understand why you want to destroy Lilith... and I don't blame you. I won't stop you either."

"I appreciate that, Ezara. No one from there on has believed me. They all think it's a worthless crusade. I was beginning to think the same thing." I look around at the destruction.

I hear a twig snap. Ezara's head whips towards the sound. She had heard it too. She holds up a finger to her lips, telling me to be quiet. "Who's there?" She asks, her voice echoing across the area. "I know you're there." She states. I take the scythe from my back and hold it in my hands.
