Karin POV
I hate her SO much.
Just who the hell does she think she is?!
Why does she think she's better than me?
Why does everyone around here love her?
And why. . .. . . can't Sasuke look at me the way he looks at her?
This is what's going through my mind in the days following Pain's attack on the Leaf. I've got to admit, it still amazes me that this village made it through to the other side of that attack without a single fatality. Don't get me wrong, there were a LOT of injured nin who may not return to the field for a while, as they were on the frontlines fighting other Pains until we entered the scene, but it's a small price to pay for the safety of villagers.
It didn't take long for me to realize that Sasuke had left the tunnels and gone back up to the surface to fight. I tried sneaking out after him, but several nin were watching me cautiously. I may have been invited to help in the makeshift hospital with backing from Moriko and the Hokage, but I was still a medic nin of unknown origin. The Hokage must have told the other medic nin to keep an eye on me, because they watched my every move.
Tch. Why even let me operate on these nin then?
Ridiculous.
All I could do was follow the chakra signatures of everyone on the battlefield, including Sasuke's of course. It kept going down in intervals, almost like he was doing the same jutsu over and over. And he was being thrown back by something every once in a while, I assume that magnet Pain's power. . .
I was really worried about him, because I could sense that Pain's chakra was greater than his. Then other chakra signatures entered the scene: The two kunoichis that were just down here in the tunnel with me were up there as well. And three chakra signatures that I'd previously never felt before.
Two were new to the battlefield, while one was there earlier fighting Pain.
The first new one felt warm and bright. . . almost like light had arrived to fight the darkness in Pain's chakra. There was quite a lot of it as well. I think it was that Naruto Uzumaki I met at Sasuke's old sensei's place. There was a terrifying second chakra just beneath the veil, so it must've been him.
The second newcomer was another shinobi's chakra, giving off the air of confidence one would expect from a shinobi entering battle. It was accompanied by a strong animal summon of sorts I think; maybe a ninken.
And the one that was there before all the others, it was. . . strange. It wasn't particularly warm like Naruto's, though it did radiate confidence like the one with the ninken. There was a weird undertone of. . . uncertainty? Anxiety? I can't quite place it under a single category. It didn't waver or flicker on the battlefield like an opponent who hesitates would do; quite the opposite, it was as stoic as ever in that aspect.
But it. . . this person was nervous about something. With what, I couldn't tell.
If it was even a person at all. . . as I kept following the battle using my sensory abilities, this chakra signature would regularly disappear and be replaced with. . . something else.
The strange aura disappears, and the chakra emitting from this body would then resemble that of a wild animal summon. The amount nearly quadrupled, it was strong and confident, overflowing on the field, and the aura I got from it was. . . calm. Protective. And a little giddy, which was reminiscent of a shinobi with battle-junkie vibes.
Must like Orochimaru's snake summons or the Toad summons that entered the battle, this new chakra didn't resemble a human's, but a beast. If I wasn't previously surveying the field, I wouldn't even realize that the human-like chakra from earlier and this new one came from the same body. I would think it was an entirely new creature that came to the battle.
