I texted Sophie on my way home that night and asked if she could come over.
"Yup, everything good?" She texted back.
"Yeah all good, just need to talk for a bit."
I walked into my house and Sophie was basically right behind me.
"Alright is it time for me to beat someone up yet?" She asked me.
"No Soph," I said with a laugh. "I just really fucked up this case today and I'm annoyed with myself."
"Why, what happened?" She plopped down on the couch and waited for me to answer.
"Jamie happened," I said with an eye roll, "what else? We had our mediation today and I couldn't think straight with her sitting across from me."
"Damn," Sophie responded, "she really did a number on you, huh?"
I shot Sophie a look and sat down next to her on the couch. "Yeah thanks for that, I'm aware."
Sophie shrugged, "sorry Cas, just speaking the truth."
Just as she said this there was a knock on the door. Sophie's eyebrows raised as she looked over at me. "Expecting someone?" She asked.
"No..." I said hesitantly, getting up and moving towards the door.
I pulled the door open and my breath caught in my throat when Jamie was standing on the other side.
I quickly slammed the door shut and turned around with my back leaning against it.
"Cas...come on please open the door," Jamie said.
I looked over at Sophie, "is that?" I nodded before she even finished her question.
"I'm not leaving until you hear you me out. I can't stand to see you like this anymore," Jamie said quietly from the other side of the door.
I looked over at Sophie and she nodded, seeming to encourage me to let Jamie in. She got up from the couch and came over to me.
"I'll take off, okay?" Sophie gave me a reassuring squeeze on the shoulder and walked up to the door.
I slowly pulled the door open and stood partially behind it, watching Jamie trying to figure out who was walking out past her.
"Call me if you need me Cas," Sophie said to me as she kept her narrowed eyes locked on Jamie's.
"And don't let this slut hurt you again," she muttered as she walked past Jamie.
"Sophie..." I started.
Jamie put her head down for a second and then looked back up at me and nodded. "It's fine, I definitely deserve that."
Sophie raised her eyebrows at me with a 'told you so' look and walked out to her car.
I silently opened the door all of the way and stood back to let Jamie in.
She stepped inside and stood there for a minute. "Can I sit down?" She asked me.
"Go ahead," I said quietly, my gaze not meeting hers.
