I was on my way home from getting drinks with Jamie, and I quickly sent Sophie a text.

"My house in 5? SOS."

"Got it," Sophie quickly replied.

I got back to the house and Sophie had beat me there. She was standing by her car waiting for me when I pulled into the driveway.

"What's going on?" She asked as I got out of my car.

"Well," I started as we walked inside, "I just got a drink with Jamie, and then agreed to have all of us go to dinner tomorrow night."

"I'm sorry you did what now?" Sophie asked.

"Jamie just - " I started to explain but Sophie but her hand up and cut me off.

"Hold on, isn't Alex home?" She said quietly.

"Oh no," I waved my hand to dismiss her question, "he's working late he won't be home for a while."

Alex was the VP of a marketing firm, and he often worked long hours. It wasn't an every night occurrence, but I knew tonight would be one of the late ones.

"Okay got it," Sophie said, "continue on then."

"Jamie showed up at my office today, like she has a habit of doing," I continued on with my story.

"Cas don't tell me something happened between you two..." Sophie said as she watched me carefully.

"No!!" I quickly responded, "just let me finish would you?"

"Okay sorry!" She quickly said.

"Anyway, she stopped by to see how the new place was and because she was 'in the area' or something."

"Mmmhm, sure," Sophie said.

I shot her a look and continued on.

"Then she asked if I wanted to go grab a drink. She said she wasn't trying to pull anything but she really didn't like how things ended," I paused and let out a sigh. "She said she wanted to clear the air."

"Well I guess that's fair," Sophie said with a shrug. "It was a pretty rough way for you two to end things."

"Yeah I thought it might help," I said. "We did talk things out a little bit, but she still never apologized. I kind of thought she would."

"Well yeah," Sophie agreed, "she did say some pretty shitty things to you before you left."

I nodded, "it still seems like something is a little off, I don't know. She said she hated how things ended but never apologized for saying she was my 'drunken experiment.'"

Sophie shook her head, "still can't believe she said that in the first place."

"I know," I sighed, "then she also said she wished things didn't end at all."

I got quiet and waited to hear what Sophie would say.

"Oh," she started, "well I'm sure that wasn't uncomfortable for you to hear at all."

I nodded, "yeah ya think?"

"And remind me again why you agreed to go to dinner and volunteered all of us?" Sophie asked.

"I don't know!" I said defensively, "I just told Jamie that she really didn't have to pretend this was fine or force the friend thing...and she said something about showing how fine it was by all hanging out."

Sophie narrowed her eyes at me.

"I don't know Soph, she makes me panic okay?!"

"So who exactly is coming to this dinner tomorrow night?" Sophie asked.

"Me, you, Alex, Jamie and Liv - Jamie's friend."

"Ahh right, so that shouldn't be awkward at all," Sophie said to me sarcastically.

I tossed my hands up in defeat, "I didn't want to say no! It'll be fine okay."

"Sure, sure..." Sophie said slowly. "Don't you think you should maybe tell Alex about this if we're all hanging out?"

"No, it's not a big deal. I don't want him to worry about anything."

"Well," Sophie started, "if he doesn't have anything to worry about then why would it matter if you told him?"

I glared at her, "you know I hate how much sense you make sometimes."

She laughed at me and shrugged. "I'm just saying Cas, might as well just tell him."

"I - well, maybe. Let me get through tomorrow night and see if I feel like I need to tell him," I said.

"Alright fine," Sophie said, "you better just be careful."

"I will," I nodded. "I just hope it's not as awkward as I'm expecting it to be." I sighed and continued, "I can tell there's still something Jamie isn't telling me that's bothering her."

"It's probably just everyone feeling uncomfortable after everything that happened. I'm sure it'll be fine," Sophie reassured me.

"And if it's not fine...you know I'm a great distraction," she continued.

"You're not wrong about that," I said as I rolled my eyes at her. "Well I guess we'll just see what happens, it can't be anything that bad...right?"

Famous last words.
