You tied your boots excitedly as you prepared for your training session with the Sunderland first team, the men's and women's team never usually trained together but your coach thought it would be a good idea to combine the sessions to see if it could positively impact your team.
You tied your hair back in low bun and stood up ready to emerge from the dressing room.
"This is gonna be great." Emily said as she wrapped her arm around your shoulders.
"I know, we can finally prove that we're just as good as the men's team." You said with a grin on your face.
"Better." Kiera said as she handed both you and Emily an energy gel.
You laughed in response as you nodded your head in agreement.
"Right, listen up ladies." Melanie announced at the front of the dressing room. "Todays a big day for us, the men's team will treat this like a normal training session, they probably will be messing around a bit, they probably think this is a waste of time, you have to prove a point today, not just for yourself, but for all women who are underestimated on a daily basis. I want to see you all at your best today, good luck girls and let's get going." She said as she clapped and revved up the team.
You began making your way out onto the pitch, the men's team weren't out yet so you all started warming up.
Melanie had you all doing lunges and squats as the men's team emerged from the tunnels.
"Here we go." Emily said rolling her eyes slightly.
"They might be alright." You shrugged as you continued with the warm up.
"Nah, doubt it, they look like pricks, they're already looking at us like we're aliens." She said as she gestured for you to look.
You turned your head towards the tunnel as all the guys walked out, your eyes immediately fell onto Jobe who was staring at you intensely. You snapped your head back and looked at Emily again.
"Why's he looking at me like that." You said with confusion in your voice.
"I don't know, but I don't like him." She said as she gave him a dirty look which he didn't see because his eyes were stuck on you.
"Em, you don't even know him." You giggled at her instant distaste for the whole team.
The guys made their way onto the pitch and joined in on the warm up exercise. Jobe's eyes were burning holes into you, you couldn't help but look back at him.
"I think he's just gonna keep staring." Keira said as she also noticed Jobe looking at you, you laughed as you tried to focus on your training, coaches words were ringing though your head, you didn't want to get distracted.
"Stop" Melanie called out as everyone stopped and paid attention to her, "have a drink guys were going to have a little race in a few minutes." She smiled as she spoke.
You walked up and grabbed a water, you began chugging is before you heard a voice from behind you.
"Hi" Jobe said making you turn around, his chest rising and falling as you turned your head up to face him.
"Hi" you smiled before you carried on drinking your water.
"You're y/n, right?" He asked as he smiled.
"Yeah, how'd you know?" You smiled back, you were taken aback by the sound of his deep voice, his dimpled smile made a warmth spread through you.
"I've seen your highlights, you're really good." He said as his smile grew.
