*No one's POV*

The cab that the girls were in was at the intersection, going straight at a green light when Lauren saw a bright red car speeding towards them. "Stop!" she shouted, but it was too late. Her body flung into her girlfriends, with thoughts running through her head. 'This was it' she told herself. It's how her mam went; it's how she will go. Evie gripped on to her girlfriend's body for dear life, which Lauren reciprocated by digging her hands into Evie's thigh. The driver was now on the other side of the car, bleeding, and Lauren wanted to help, but she couldn't move. Nothing was physically keeping her from moving, except her own thoughts.

'This can't be happening.' she begged her mind to believe. She tried gaslighting herself into thinking this was a fever dream, and that her and her girlfriend were cuddled up at home, everything was okay... but that wasn't the case.

"Evie?" Lauren whispered, but in that moment, Lauren's vision went black, and the sound of sirens were getting closer. "I've got you, baby." Evie whispered, but no response. "Baby?" nothing... "Talk to me, please." nothing... "Baby. Lauren. Please. I've got you. Don't. Just stay strong. Talk to me... please." she cried, gripping on to her girlfriend's unconscious body.

Evie was still alert, awake, but it was hell. All of this was hell. Lauren knew she shouldn't have got in that car, so why did she? She trusted her girlfriend, but none of this was up to Evie. None of this was her fault. They were at a green light... weren't they? Evie kept thinking this was her fault... but it wasn't.

The ambulance came and despite Lauren being unconscious, Evie's arm was still wrapped around her girlfriend's body.

"Hey. My name is Gabby. I'm here to help you, okay? This is my partner, Shay. She is going to help your friend, okay?" Gabby, one of the paramedics, spoke. "Girlfriend. Her name is Lauren. Please don't take her away from me." Evie begged, but Shay sat in the car. "We will take such good care of your girlfriend, okay? I promise you. We will try our hardest. You need to let her go so we can see where she's hurt." Shay whispered but Evie shook her head.

"No, don't move your head. You might be injured too. Look, as soon as we see that she's okay, you can see her, alright? I really need to check if she's okay." Shay whispered, before calling other paramedics over to get Lauren on a stretcher.

"Don't let her die." Evie whispered as her girlfriend was being taken away, the paramedics shouting things at each other.

"I've got you. Can you stay still for me?" Gabby whispered, putting a neck brace on Evie. "Now, I want you to tell me all about your girlfriend. Keep you alert and awake, okay?" The paramedic spoke again, and Evie started up. "She's 18, just turned. She lives with me in London. She's so pretty and kind and caring. I love her. We were talking about kids earlier." Evie said with a slight chuckle. "Kids? Already? You're young girls." Gabby smiled, taking Evie out of the car, and putting her on the stretcher. "I know, but she's had a miscarriage before, about 8 months ago and she still thinks about it. She wants to be a mum." Evie spoke, tearing up again and Gabby's face dropped a little.

"Shay! She's 18, and she's 8 months post-miscarriage!" Gabby shouted towards her partner, who was already helping the severely injured young girl.

Lauren has sustained injuries to her side, her ribs, her head; bleeding across her chest and stomach from where the seatbelt cut into her at the force it did. She was out blank, unconscious as she was being rushed to the closest emergency room; the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

Evie got taken there too, but they couldn't see each other yet, because Evie still had to get exams and checkups.

"Can you tell me your name, your date of birth and your parents' names?" The doctor spoke to Evie. "Evie Smith. 21st March 03, my mum is Sally Smith, and my dad is David Smith. Can I see my girlfriend?" Evie asked and the doctor looked at her. "Not right now. Can you tell me her details if you can?" He spoke and she whispered, "Lauren Sophia Arnold, 29th December 2003, her mums are Katie McCabe and Ruesha Littlejohn." she spoke, frantically.
