Chapter 43

Harry's POV
I was at the office this morning when my mobile went off "hello?" I answered the unknown number, on the other line a women spoke "hi this is Lisa from bright smiles dentistry and I am calling in regards to Rachel styles, are you her guardian?"
"I am yes"
"Okay great so she's overdue her check by a fair amount of time which is why I am calling as I hope to arrange an appointment with her"
"How long?"
"Almost four years" o didn't realise it had been that long, I forget that it's not just me that she needs check ups with
"Oh okay, can I book an appointment for her?"
"Of course, when is convenient for you?"
"As soon as possible"
"I have one for today at 3:50?"
"That would be great thanks"
"Okay thanks very much, bye"
I decided to text Rachel to warn her to be ready, the text read 'morning princess, be up and ready to leave by 3, I'll pick you up. Love you, Haz xx'
That should do it cause as you could guess she's not find of the dentist either.
"Scarlet Walters?" I called from my door, a young girl stood up and made her way to me
"Hi sweat heart, come and take a seat for me" I smiled closing the door before sitting down "so what can I do for you today?" I asked softly as I couldn't make out if she was just shy or scared
"I um- uh" she stopped and looked down, she took a deep breath and looked back at me with tears in her eyes to which I just smiled and placed my hand on her knee reassuringly
"Take your time, no pressure okay?" She needed and began to speak again "a check up?" She said more of a question than an answer
"Okay love that's no problem at all, any reason you need it or just a general check up?"
"General, I think, I don't know? It's for school" she spoke in a hurry as if she was scared of not getting everything g out
"Okay no worries, when was the last time you saw a doctor?" O asked getting the bloody pressure cuff ready.
"I can't remember" she blushed and out her head down
"Long time ago was it?" I smiled and sh nodded. "I'm just going out this around your arm and it'll go tight but just stay nice and calm for me yeah?" I said as k put the cuff around her arm and started taking her BP "so did you come here for your last appointment or is this your first time here?" I asked while taking her BP to ease her nerves
"First time" she whispered
"Okay no worries, well your blood pressure is fine so I'm just going to take your temperature so I'm going to pop this in your ear okay?" She nodded and smiled and I removed it after it beeped and it read '37.6' "that's perfect, so have you got any problems or concerns you'd like to ask about?" She shook her head "okay just let me know if you think of something throughout the exam okay, no need to worry I'm here to help, may I?" I asked as I gestured to her wrist to take her pulse, she looked down and contemplated it for a few seconds before nodded weakly.
I rolled up her sleeve slightly and I discovered many lacerations to her wrist so I took her pulse first and put it in the computer but when I looked back to ask her a question she had her head in her hands.
"Everything okay my love?" I asked as I kneeled down in front of her.
"I'm sorry" she whispered
"You've got nothing to be sorry for" I smiled even though she wasn't looking at me
"I have, you seen it!"
"I know I did see your wrists but I can help you if you talk to me love, just explain to me what's happening" I said as I lifted her chin so she would look at me. She nodded weakly and I sat back in my chair
"First of all can I have a good look at them?" She didn't speak but held up her arm. I rolled her sleeve up to her elbow and round cuts all the way up the arm, some older and some new, very new. "What about the other one?" I asked and she she lifted that to reveal the same as the other "anywhere else?" I asked softly to which she just shook her head no.
"Okay tell me why you do this" I said softly smiling at her
"The others at school make me feel so pathetic and it just helps" she sobbed
"Your being bullied are you?" She nodded "have you told anyone?" She shook her head no
"Okay sweetheart I think what you need to do first is to tell someone about this, your parents or friends or a teacher, then if you still feel the same come back and we can get you to talk to someone who knows about all this, how does that sound?"
"Okay I guess"
"Good girl" I smiled "shall we continue?" She nodded
"Okay just look straight ahead for me then" o said as I shined my torch on her eyes "and open up real big for me" she opened her mouth and I took a look "say Aaahhhh"
"Aahh" she coughed half way through
"It's okay sweetheart I'm all done" I said "I'm just going to pop my hand up your shirt to listen to your chest is that okay?" I asked placing the ear pieces to my stethoscope on my ears. She didn't answer me and just looked down "there's nothing to worry about, I'm just going to have a little listen, nothing scary I promise" to which she then nodded. I finished up her exam in 10 minutes and was ready to move on the next one.
"Charlotte hay?" I called and a little girl cam running over closely followed by her mother
"Well hello princess" I said as they both sat down
"Hewo" she answered
"I'm doctor styles, nice to meet you" I greeted her mother
"Lauren" she replied smiling at me
"So what can I do for you both?" I asked
"I'm worried about her left eye, she seems to be irritated quite a bit by it and I don't know why, it does get red at points but not all the time. It's causing her a lot of distress" Lauren explained for her daughter
"Okay, how long ago did this start?"
"About a week and a half? o thought it was hay fever but she doesn't sneeze or anything and it's just the one eye"
"Okay no problem I'll have a little look and see what's going on" I said as I grabbed the ophthalmoscope and moved my chair directly in front of Charlotte who was on Lauren's lap "okay princess this is just a little light do I can see what's happening to your eye okay, it'll just be bright but I need you to keep looking at my poster on the wall okay?" O asked and Charlotte nodded.
I had a good look around the eye and hen looked at her good eye to compare "well done Charlotte, your such a good girl" I said and high fives her m "it's nothing too serious just a case of conjunctivitis" I said to Lauren "I'll give you some oral medication because children don't like to cooperate when you want to put things in their eye, of this medication doesn't resolve the problem in a week, come back and I'll see what else I can do okay?" I said signing and giving her the prescription
"Thank you so much, what do you say?" She said to Charlotte "fank you" she smiled and jumped off her mothers lap.
When Lauren stood up she seemed unsteadily and gripped on to the chair again
"Okay love just sit back down for me, what happened?" I asked as I helped her back onto the chair
" I don't know? Everything went black then, I'm so sorry" she apologised and tried to get back up before I stopped her "okay just take it easy for a second, let me see you!" I said as I shined my pen torch on her eyes
"Squeeze as tight as you can" I said as I placed my fingers in her hands "good, now let me have a quick listen to your heart to be sure okay?" I put my stethoscope on my ears but before I could listen I heard Charlotte start to cry "get off my mammy!!" She cried
"Hey, I'm not hurting her I promise princess, come over her with me and have a look what I'm doing okay?" I spoke and she came closer to me and I put the bell of the stethoscope on Lauren's chest "see I'm not hurting mammy, am I mam?" I said to Lauren
"No sweetheart, not hurting me, he's helping"
"Owkay" she sniffled
"I'm listening to mammys heart, do you want a turn?" I asked and she nodded so I placed the ends in her ears and let her listen. She smiled when she heard it, "you have one too, want to listen?" I asked and when she nodded I put the stethoscope up her top and on her chest so she could listen. When I moved it away she asked "do you have one too?"
"Yes princess, everyone does. Listen" I said as I let her listen to my heart too and she smiled
"do you like that?" I asked and she nodded
"Why was mammys faster than ours?" She asked
"It's because mammy stood up to quick and almost fell back down so her heart jumped a little bit like when someone scares you" o replied and she nodded in understanding "no problems, just take it slow and you'll be fine okay?"
"Thank you so much, come on babe"
"Bye" they both said as they left.
Well now that work was over with it's time to go get Rachel.
Rachel's POV
What could Harry possibly want me for now I thought as I made my way out to the car
"Hello princess, how are you?" Harry asked
"I'm okay actually, feeling much better after that sleep" I smiled
"Told you the morphine would do it" he said
"So where you taking me?" I asked a bit confused at his sudden decisions to come and get me.
"You have a dentist appointment that's all babe, nothing bad" he spoke calmly
"Nothing bad? Nuh take me back" I said a bit overwhelmed all of a sudden.
"No can do sorry, it's your first in four years, that's a long long time love, you have to go but I'll be with you the whole time I promise you!" He spoke
"Okay" I number quietly
"That's my girl" he grinned.
When we got there I sat down as Harry checked me in, five minutes later a my name came on the screen and said to go to room 2, me and Harry walked to room two and knocked the door "come in" we heard and Harry opened the door for me and let me in first before following after me.
"Hi. My name is perrie and this is dani" the dentist smiled "just here for a check up is it?" She asked and k froze. I couldn't move I was just flies to the spot I had stopped in when I came in, I hadn't even sat down yet but Harry spoke for me "yeah she hadn't had one in a while" while rubbing my shoulders to calm me down
"Okay great, so do you want to come and sit down for me?" She asked and I still didn't move.
"Rach it's okay, come on you can do this. Just sit down to start" Harry said
"There's no rush just come and sit down for me" perrie said
I finally started to move and I sat down and leaned back in the chair.
"so now I'm going to lower your chair back and just take a quick look, okay?" I nodded and as the chair went back I panicked and tried to sit up but Harry rushed over and pushed me back down "sh sh, your okay just relax, I'm here look! I've got you I promise" she said as her held my hand
"Can you open really big for me?" Perrie asked as she picked up her mirror. She checked everything for a good five minutes before sitting my chair back up "no problems at all, everything is just as it should be so that's t for another six months" she smiled
"Thank god" I muttered and Harry giggled before thanking perrie and helping me back to my feet
"Thank you" I smiled and left the room.
Back in the car Harry just smiled at me "what?" I asked
"Nothing babe, I just told you everything would be okay!" I smiled back at him and laughed. He's such an amazing brother, don't know what I'd do without him.
