My New Doctor

Chapter 29

Harry's POV

After sending sophie home I finished my coffee and then headed out to get my next patient, 3 year old Lilly.

She ran into my office with her mother and father in tow, she sat on her mothers lap and I sat in my chair.

"Hello princess"

"Hello" Lilly replied happily

"And what's your name?"

"I'm Lilly"

"That's a pretty name sweetie, my name is Harry" she smiled back at me. "Do you know why your here today?" I asked and she looked at her mother who said,

"She's not been very well lately, she's had a bit of the cold and cough and an upset tummy and so I thought we should get her checked"

"Okay and how long has this been going on?"

"Almost 3 weeks now"

"Okay and when was the last time she saw a doctor?"

"Over a year ago I'd say"

"Any reason for leaving it so long?"

"Not really it's just I don't go and so I don't bring her either" her mother replied

"So when did you last see a doctor?" I asked slightly concerned

"10 years or so not including when I gave birth"

"Oh wow! That's a very long time! Any reason?"

"Not a big fan really"

"I think you should make an appointment to see someone, I could book you in with me if you'd like or I could do it now?" She just looked at me with complete fear. "how about you book an appointment with me for a check up sometime next week?"

"Okay" she mumbled

"Just ask the receptionist on the way out"

I said to her and she nodded.

I turned to Lilly and said "so you've not been feeling very good have you princess?" and she shook her head "what's wrong? What's hurting you?"

"My tummy hurts and my nose is icky and my voice hurts and I cough a lot" I smiled at her description

"That's not very good is it?!" I said to which she shook her head "so shall I take a little look at you and see if I can fix you?"

"Yes please" she replied smiling at me. I love seeing kids like her, they just melt my heart

"How would you like to come and sit on the bed?" I said as I shook up and went to the bed. She nodded and walked towards me, I lifted her up onto the bed and grabbed my torch from my pocket.

"Can you look at me finger?" As she did that I took a look at her eyes and then said "open your mouth really big like an alligator for me!" I told her and she did and I took a quick look and I instantly noticed she had a throat infection. I got my otoscope and pushed her head up and took a look at her nose and a quick look at her ears. "Can you lay down for me princess?" She laid down and I lifted her shirt up and pushed down on her stomach "does this hurt?" She nodded "okay I'm sorry princess, sit back up for me?" She sat up and I pulled my stethoscope off my neck and listened to her heart and then moved to her lungs "can you pretend your blowing out candles for me?" I stuck my fingers up and when she blew towards them I put them down as if candles were going out. I set her back on the floor and she ran to her mother and sat back on her lap.

"Okay so she seems to have a viral infection and it's causing mucus to build up in her sinus's and chest which is causing the cold like symptoms and a cough but there's no reason for her tummy ache, does she go to the toilet regularly?" I explained

"Not for the past few weeks she hasn't been, she says she doesn't like it"

"Lilly? Why don't you go poo-poo anymore sweetheart?" I asked her hoping she understands

"It hurts" she said quietly

"What hurts? Does your tummy hurt or your bottom?"

"My bottom"

"Okay princess" I smiled at her "she doesn't go now and that's causing her tummy ache but she isn't constipated it is probably just fear"

"Fear? Of what?" Her dad asked confused

"She could have had one painful experience and now she's scared it will hurt all the time. It's really common in children and so it's really just the case of ensuring her it won't hurt"

"Oh right okay, and when she starts going again her tummy ache will go?" Her mother asked

"Yeah I'm pretty certain it will.

Now Lilly, I'm going to give you some medicine okay and when you take it it'll make you get better and it won't hurt when you go poo-poo anymore okay?" She smiled and nodded "I'm going to prescribe some antibiotics and I'll like to see her again in a week, you should make an appointment for the two of you for this time next week yeah?"

"Okay"

"Just to clarify the antibiotics won't do anything to her tummy but it'll give her an idea to hold onto that it's not going to hurt anymore"

"Okay thanks a lot" her dad said as they all stood up and I handed over the prescription "bye bye" Lilly shouted.

Now for the fun part, Rachel.

Rachel's POV

It was almost 5 and I was now waiting for Harry. He pulled up outside and beeped and so I headed out to the car and got in.

He drove us to the hospital and I followed him inside and Zayn was sat in his office. I say down on the chair and waited for an explanation.

"Sorry chick but you have to get two shots today but don't panic cause Zayn is going to help you through it"

"Uh hell no!!" I shouted back
