My New Doctor

Chapter 8

Ella's POV

"I am going to do a blood test and I'm going to need a urine sample from you, the toilet is just to the left of my room okay?" Harry said whilst gathering things from a cabinet and handing me some sort of bottle

I made my way back from the toilet and went to enter Harry's office before I remembered that he wanted to take a blood test and I realised that meant using a needle, one of my greatest fears about this place. I could hear Harry and Zayn talking from the other side of the door

Z- "so what are you thinking is wrong?"

H- "she could have a bladder infection and I also think she could be anaemic"

Z- "so it's nothing too concerning then?"

H- "no they are both treatable but they do explain where her symptoms are from"

Z- "let's hope she lets you do the blood test first though or we could have a problem"

I lost my balance and fell into the door causing it to make a noise to which Harry came and opened the door and I knew that there was no way out of this now.

Harry's POV

"Ella can you take a seat on the bed and I'll send this off to the lab" I said whilst filling in the form to go along with her sample ready to give to the nurse waiting at the door

"Thanks soph" I said handing it over to her

I had already gathered all the equipment I needed for the blood sample and so I picked up the tray and walked towards her but I didn't get very far before she started to panic but Zayn was on hand to help

"Ella calm down love, it's nothing to worry about" Zayn said sweetly but Ella was just shaking her head while gasping for breath

"Okay what is it your worried about?" Zayn asked "is is the needle that you don't like?" Ella nodded to Zayn's question

"That's completely normal, a lot of people are scared but they realise there's no need to be because it's really quick and most people hardly feel a thing! And Harry's an expert at this" Zayn said smiling at Ella to which she calmed down slightly and so I walked over and set the tray down beside her, on the opposite side to which Zayn was.

Zayn was encouraging her to keep looking at him and not me

I put my gloves on and rolled up her sleeve to which she jumped and pulled her arm away from me

"It's okay Ella, just relax your arm for me, I won't do anything until your ready okay?"

"Okay" she said relaxing her arm back to where it was

I felt her vein on her arm where it bends at the elbow and applied the tourniquet a little above where I was going to insert the needle. I cleaned the area with an alcohol wipe and I picked the needle up and removed the cap positioning my hand ready to insert it

"Okay Ella, are you ready?" She nodded slowly "okay sharp scratch coming up" I said inserting the needle into the vein and attaching the tube to which the blood would be collected, she tensed her arm up straight away

"It's okay, just try and keep your arm nice and relaxed okay? Nothing to worry about I'm almost done"

I swapped the tubes over once the first one had been filled and soon after the second one had filled and I removed the needle, placing a cotton pad over the area and applying slight pressure

"All done my love" I said to Ella while Zayn took hold of the cotton pad while I got the blood ready to be tested
