Chapter 55

Harry's POV
"Deep breaths for me, just like Sophie did" I said and she complied. She started taking really shallow and shaky breaths which is worrying in itself "just relax" Sophie smiled at her. I had to listen for a little while because I wasn't really sure what I was hearing, I've only ever heard something like this twice before and both had the same outcome, lung cancer.
I didn't want to believe that this was possible in someone this age but I couldn't rule it out. I put my stethoscope around my neck and grabbed my sphygmomanometer and went to take her blood pressure but she moved away "no I don't like that" she sobbed
"What don't you like sweetheart, it's nothing to worry about?" I asked gently trying not to upset her even more
"No please? I just don't like it, they always do it too tight and my arm goes tingly" she said backing away again
"I'll be gentle, I won't hurt you I promise, it's just a tight squeeze" I said but she still refused
"I don't like it that much either but it's not that bad" Sophie said
"You would say that, your a nurse" grace cried
"How about if I do it to Rachel first, she doesn't really like it but it's nothing to worry about?" I asked and she just looked towards Rachel and back to me a few times "if Rachel does it, can you?" I asked and finally she nodded
"Come here then princess" I smiled to Rachel who came closer to me and rolled her sleeve up, "ready?" I asked and she nodded so I inflated the cuff and took her blood pressure before removing the cuff "all done, 115/80, that's not bad rach" I laughed
"You know me, always the best" she smirked before sitting back again and Sophie just laughed at her.
"Okay so you ready grace?" I asked and she nodded so I put the cuff around her arm "there we go, just try and relax and I'll be as quick as I can" I said and she nodded. I could see she was getting worried now and again but o managed to get her bp which was 110/75 which isn't too bad so I moved on. "Just checking your temperature so I'll put this in your ear" I said and she allowed me to do so without any problems.
There wasn't a lot else I could do here so I had to get her to the hospital. "Grace sweetheart, I know that your scared but I need to take you to the hospital where I can run a few tests to help me find out what's going on, is that okay?" I asked and she just turned to Rachel shaking her head and began to sob uncontrollably.
"Please grace? You know you need to! You can't keep on like this" Rachel said as a single tear slid down her cheek and grace simply nodded. I excused myself to make a phone call
G - hello?
H - hi George it's Harry, you in the ed?
G - yeah I'm just about to start my shift, why what's up?
H - I need your help, I think Rachel's friend could have lung cancer.
G - no problem I'll see you here
H - thanks mate see you soon

I walked back into the room to find Sophie trying to calm grace down because she had got herself in a state and Rachel was in the kitchen crying so I went to see her "hey princess, come here" I said opening my arms.
"Haz I'm scared, what's wrong with her?" She sobbed
"I'm not sure yet babe but I'm going to find out" I said stroking her hair
"What do you think it is though? You must think it's something to be taking her to the hospital"
"You don't need to worry until we find out for sure" I said calmly
"No haz! I need to know!" She shouted
"Hey calm down, I need you to understand that she's very ill, she needs your support so you've got to get yourself together" I said and she calmed herself down "now if I tell you, you cannot tell her until I know for sure" Rachel nodded "I think it could be lung cancer" I said and all colour from her face just dropped and she went white as a ghost.
