"Let me get this right, mum and dad both liked eachother, both cared for eachother, but it took them like a year to get together!" Jasmine said shocked.
"Exactly, they were both too bloody stubborn for their own good, but it worked out for the best, though they both took great delight in knowing how much they pissed me off in those months before they were dating only communicating through me." I replied remembering how they later laughed and joked around saying they only did it to piss me off, a likely story.
"Anyway, carry on." Jasmine told me, rolling her eyes at the teenage immaturity of her parents.
"Ella still felt alone, she couldn't see just how much we all loved her. Each day, her heart was plummeting into an even further darkness, which had strong resemblance to an abyss she just couldn't pull herself out of. All she saw was a girl that didn't belong and her pain only grew, until she became someone she didn't recognise.
Your mum and dad had always been able to read each other extremely well. She always knew when not to push him, when to give him space or when he needed a friend more than he needed her. Likewise, he knew how to handle her in every way but what they hadn't yet been able to fathom was each other's pasts.
Alfie knew that Ella was highly anxious and had trouble with her parents, just like Ella knew Alfie had problems with his dad, but nothing more. Alfie soon realised that Ella's life was far more dark and complex than she would ever let on, but still he stayed, falling in love with his girl ; his girl that would one day just be gone.
Ella didn't tell him willingly about her past. Her mum called her whilst she was at his house and I don't know what was said on that phone call, but whatever it was sent Ella spiralling and she broke down crying in front of him, which was something Ella never did, she never showed weakness in front of others which is why it came as a surprise to both herself and Alfie when the tears started falling, but Alfie even though this was his first time dealing with Ella in this state knew exactly what to do that would help her. He pulled her close and held her tightly against his chest, trying to find someway to protect the girl he'd already come to love.
Ella knew she couldn't hide herself from him anymore, so taking a leap of faith and pushing all fear aside, she slowly started speaking more truth than she ever had before. She had told him everything from beginning to end, finally realising he wasn't going anywhere, they were in this together for the long haul.
Once she'd finished telling him her story he immediately kissed her and realised her he'd protect her at all costs. He then went on to tell her his story, if only to reassure Ella that she wasn't alone in this, that he could relate. I can't tell you your dad's story though that's from him to share if he ever wants to, but that day was a massive achievement for both of them, a day I doubted ever would come as both of them had to be vulnerable to share the secrets they'd both buried deep within. But in the end, they both felt a million times better knowing that the other now knew and loved them despite the darkness within. It was the night they realised they would love eachother throughout anything, always.
A lot of tears were shed that night, but they brushed them away as Alfie made his first promise to her, he said "We'll move on together, I'll find a way out where we can be free, just you and me, I promise you Ella." and they did for a while, both of them made stupid mistakes along the way, testing their relationship and their future, but every time they moved past it because in the end your mother's love for Alfie conquered all and Alfie was always there by her side loving her, trying his best to fix her broken heart and fragile mind."
