"So, now you know the story of your mother's life and what led her to making the decision she did. Alfie still doesn't know about the miscarriage, but I'm hoping he'll find the bravery like you have done today to listen to her story tonight. Before I forget, Ella left this for you as a sort of parting gift, so you'll always have a piece of her with you." I said as I pulled out a locket and handed it to Jasmine.
With her hands shaking, Jasmine gently opened the locket and inside revealed a picture of Ella and Jasmine taken on the day she was born.
Jasmine then collapsed into my arms, crying over the mother she'd lost seven years ago.
Even after all these years, I was still mad at Ella, I understood why she'd done it, but she'd left all of us. She left me to care for her daughter in her absence, she left Jasmine without a mum but most of all she left Alfie. Everything fell apart without her, she never realised just how needed she was.
"Jasmine your mum would be proud of you as I know she would be of me, for she knows I had the courage to tell you her life story and know that she shall live on in me every day for the rest of my life." I said to Jasmine trying to console her.
"I miss her." Was all Jasmine replied with.
"We all do." I agreed.
That was without a doubt one of the most heartbreaking conversation I've ever had to have. Spending the whole day reliving my best friends life up to her death and now as I leave Jasmine to process what she'd learnt, Alfie and Henry were back and I wasn't leaving until Alfie would finally hear what had caused Ella to take her own life.
"How is she?" Alfie asked me as I sat down beside Henry in the living room.
"She's okay, shocked, but now she knows everything, you to as well, even if it is just so you can be there for Jasmine." I said to him.
"I know." Alfie mumbled, to say I was shocked was an understatement, Alfie Wilson was finally after seven years allowing me to tell him the story of his girlfriend.
Once I had finished recounting all the parts that he didn't know of Ella's story, he started sobbing. This was rare for Alfie as he was amazing at hiding his emotions, I'd only witnessed Alfie like this when Ella had died.
"She should've told me! I would've helped her, it was my baby too! Why? Why couldn't she tell me?" Alfie said loudly.
"She didn't want to burden you anymore. If bringing up the past upsets you I'm sorry but don't be mad at me for making you relive it all as all she left us with is memories and history."
