Alfie - Two years later
It was Jasmine's sixteenth birthday, I'd told her to pack a suitcase, unbeknown to her I was taking her to New York.
Henry drove us to the airport both Jasmine and him complaining about how early it was, I didn't think 7 am was too bad, they should be grateful I didn't go for the earlier flight.
"So, when do I find out where we're going?" Jasmine asked me once we'd been through security and got rid off our luggage, we were now sat having a coffee waiting till it was time to board.
"We're going to New York, for the week." I announced.
She immediately flung her arms around me, I'd never seen her look so excited. Just like her mother she'd always from a young age dreamed of visiting the city.
-------------------------
The next couple of days we spent exploring New York, visiting all the places that Ella never got a chance too.
We were sat in a small café, sat beside the window looking at the busy city below. I thought of Ella and how she should've been here with us ; still all these years later I miss her immensely.
"We were going to move here the three of us, we never got to, but Ella loved the idea of us moving here. She would've given anything to be here with us right now Jasmine, you should know that, this was her dream. I have something of your mother's to give to you." I told her.
I handed Jasmine a small gift bag, inside contained items of Ella's that me and Jodie had saved for Jasmine. She pulled out the small box in which was Ella's favourite ring that she was given on her sixteenth birthday too. I could see by the way tears were forming in Jasmine's eyes that she remembered this ring, she remembered her mother wearing it. Then she took out the leather jacket and of Ella's silver bracelets.
"I know you already have the locket your mother left you, but I thought you'd like these as well and Ella would've wanted you to have them." I said.
"Thanks Dad." Jasmine replied through tears. "I miss her. I feel like I forget her more with every year that passes and I hate it. I hate that I'll forever miss her and that she never got to see her grow up."
"I hate it too but I've finally come to terms with Ella's death and I think back on the memories we made together and it hurts but it eases the void of missing her because I realise now that I was lucky enough to have known Ella, to have loved Ella, to have shared my life with her, to have given her a beautiful daughter. I know you miss her Jasmine as do I but one day like your mother once said to me we'll be together again. You'll never forget her because she's with us always, she's by our side throughout everything. And I know she's watched you grow up she'd be proud of you as I am."
As Jasmine hugged me, I realised that Ella would never be forgotten. I look at my daughter and see just how much she resembles her mother.
If I could I would give up any moment I had with Ella if it meant that Jasmine could have that time with her mum but of course that isn't possible, not yet anyway. Maybe one day in years to come we'd get to be a family again.
