chapter 26 - stepping down and stepping up

Y/n's POV.

I wake up in the middle of the night to a feeling like somebody has just stabbed me in the gut. I hiss and jump out of bed to run to the bathroom.

I place my arms over the toilet and begin to empty everything that I ate earlier. In no time, Vegeta is right next to me, holding my hair and rubbing my back.

"I'm sorry for waking you Vegeta." He wets a rag and wipes my mouth.

"Y/n, you can call for me anytime you need me and I' will drop whatever I'm doing to help you."

"Even training?"

He lets out a small laugh. "I'll think about it." He kisses my forehead and helps me up. I thought we were going to bed, but he walks to the door.

"Where are we going?"

"To get an ultrasound. Clearly, we need to see what's going on." I nod and stumble a little bit, catching myself on the wall.

Not missing a beat, Vegeta bends down and picks me up.

We arrive at the medical bay and the doctor stands up.

"I don't mean to be rude, but what is it this time?"

We both stare daggers at the doctor and she gulps and puts her hands up in a surrender motion.

"We need an ultrasound to see how far Y/n is along in her pregnancy." Vegeta places me on the bed and leans it up.

"My mother didn't start showing until a month before I was born. So we're wondering if it's the same for me." I lift my shirt as the doctor gathers everything while a nurse walks in.

"Alright this is going to be a little bit cold but it'll warm up fast okay?" I nod as the nurse places the jelly on my stomach and rubs it around.

"Before we start, do you want to know the gender?" I shake my head no.

"Can we put it in an envelope? I'd like to give it to my friend."

"Of course we can." She smiles at me and faces the screen towards her instead.

Moving around the ultrasound transducer, a smile comes to her face.

"It's perfectly healthy, you just need to continue eating your diet so your body keeps the proper energy you need. I'd say you're due in about a month." The doctor presses a few buttons and the printer turns on.

"A MONTH?!" Vegeta and I yell at the same time and sweat beads start to form on my forehead.

"Yup! I'm surprised you didn't know earlier Princess Y/n. When did you find out?" She turns the machine off and strides towards the printer.

"Umm, a few weeks ago maybe? I had my suspicions, but I finally decided to just bite the bullet and take one."

"What do you mean you had suspicions?" Vegeta glares at me.

Crap.

"Well, I was just super hungry sometimes and craving weird things. I also felt sick after training, but I just thought it was normal." I shrug and pull my shirt back down.

Vegeta's stare feels like it's piercing my soul.

Is he mad? I didn't truly know. Oh god oh god oh god

"Well, if you didn't know I guess I can't be upset. I just wish you would've said something earlier about the suspensions Y/n." I can see a little bit of hurt on his face. Standing up, I walk over to him and cup his cheek.
