I laughed nervously. He was joking. He had to be, "Don't kid like that with me Sun..." all Sundrop did was stare at me with a confused expression before finally breaking the silence, "I'm not joking...?"
I groaned, tv always warned me to read the fine print and not to make contracts without going through the whole thing. Yet I'm an idiot.
"So you're seriously telling me that I'll be living here??" Sundrop nodded, "Would you like for me to show you to your new room?" I sighed, "Fine..."
He brought me to a door that was close to the ball pit. I'm guessing it's so I'd be close to Sun and Moon's balcony in case they need repairs and stuff. I walked into the room after Sundrop, laughing to myself seeing him having to duck to get through the door.
"Ta da!" Sun yelled out. I looked around. It was pretty plain but I'll be able to change it into something more... literally anything better.
I turned to Sun and smiled, "Thanks... shouldn't the kids be here soon? What time is it?" Sun paused for a moment, "8:46. The daycare opens at 9!"
I nodded, enough time to get ready before I'm surrounded by kids. "Hey Sunny?" "Hm?" "Could you leave for a moment so I can get myself together?" Sundrop smiled, "Yes! Of course Sunshine!"
As he left the room, I called out to him, "You don't have to call me that!" Yet I don't think he heard me.
I looked around. It was a nice and cozy living room with a small kitchen attached. That was nice. I saw two doors leading from there. I opened the first to find a hallway closet. I opened the other to find the bedroom.
I sat down on the bed and sighed. What am I doing here? I should've read the contract better, I should know that. Yet of course I'm an idiot and didn't. I need to ask Sun where I can get another copy of that contract so I could figure out what else I agreed to without realizing it.
I noticed there was a bathroom and another closet. I'll have to use one of those 4 days tonight so I can get all my stuff. I walked back out of my room and saw Sundrop already talking to a kid. Damn. How long was I staring at the wall, rethinking life? Too long because it was already 9:03.
I walked over to Sun and the child, putting on a smile. "Hey Sunny! Would you like to introduce me?" Sun turned to me and greeted me with a big grin, "Yes, of course! This is Amelia, one of our regulars!"
I walked over to the little girl and bent down to eye level. She moved away slightly before clinging onto Sundrop's leg. I smiled but softer. She seemed so much like me when I first came to the daycare. I may not remember everything but that first day, I do remember. I didn't want to talk to the other kids and just clung to Sun.
"It's okay, Amelia! This is Y/N! They are our newest daycare attendant!" I felt a bit weird as Sun called me a 'Daycare Attendant'. "Don't worry, I get your nervousness."
The little girl continued to cling to Sundrop's leg. "You know, I used to come here when I was a little girl too. I was only 10 at the time! How old are you?" Amelia held up 9 fingers. I chuckled, "Not much of a talker, are you?"
Sundrop laughed nervously, "Oh! I'm so sorry Sunshine! I completely forgot to tell you, Amelia here is mute!" I glanced at Sun before looking back at Amelia. She was fidgety with her fingers. I quickly pulled out a small stress ball from my bag and handed it to her. "No need to be stressed. It's alright"
I stood up and to my surprise, she let go of Sundrop and hugged my leg instead. I couldn't help but smile. This feeling... it's so nice... Maybe, just maybe... I'm really going to like this job.
