I slowly opened my eyes and I sat up before checking my phone to see what time it was. 8:56?! Shit I slept in. Good thing I live here now and I don't have to drive to work.
My clothes were still a mess in my suitcase so I just grabbed whatever was on the top of the pile that was work appropriate and quick threw it on.
I walked out of my room and already saw a few kids. I ran up to Sundrop, "Sunny! I'm so sorry for being late!" He smiled as he turned me, "Oh don't worry Sunshine! I was going to let you sleep in but it seems you awoke by yourself!"
"Sunny... You shouldn't have to do all the work while I sleep..." He shook his head, "After last night I knew you would need it!" I smiled softly as I looked up at him. I just needed to get through the day. Gotta make it until naptime.
Finally the lights were about to be turned off and Sundrop looked so nervous. I walked over to him and held his hand, "It'll be alright..." He smiled and a kid flicked the lights off and I watched him turn into Moon. I was still holding his hand.
As soon as he saw me, Moondrop let go and took a step back. I waited until he put the children to sleep. He lifted into the air and immediately tried to leave to his room but I made sure to grab his hand before he could make it any further.
I watched as he turned to me but didn't dare to try and look me in the eyes. "Moon. Look at me." He didn't. "Moon..." I tugged on his arm and he pulled it away from me. "I'm... S-Sorry..."
I didn't expect him to speak, so I definitely didn't expect him to apologize. I smiled softly, "I forgive you. I'm not mad." That time he glanced at me but then kept his gaze averted.
"I won't blame you for being mad or hurt or any of your human feelings." Great. He's now blaming himself and speaking like he's just a robot and nothing more. "Sunny has told me that you feel too. You feel emotions and pain!"
He didn't look any happier. "And yet you're so amazed that I can." Shit. I'm making him feel worse. "I'm sorry... I'll leave you be..."
I had turned around to leave but this time he grabbed my hand instead. I spun around to face him but he still wasn't looking at me. "I'm sorry if I made you... uncomfortable..."
I moved towards him and he looked uneasy. "Look, I know it wasn't your fault about what happened last night but you need to tell Sun." He shook his head. "Moon..."
"If I told him, he'd start worrying about getting decommissioned and I don't want him to have to worry like that." I nodded slowly, "Decommissioned... You don't have to worry. I'll make sure it never happens. You have my word."
Moon let go of my hand and held out a single pinky. I smiled and locked mine with his, "I promise." He finally looked in my eyes, "Thank you... Starlight..."
