"I knew that you were going to kiss me... Because I honestly don't know who I am right now."
I opened my eyes as I could feel my shoulder being shook gently. Looking up, I noticed Chad smirking cheekily at me as my eyes widened.
"Carmen, you know we're just going to Melbourne, not to the middle of nowhere? You don't need to be nervous, it's a beautiful place, trust me!" He said as he leaned his head against his seat.
I shook myself out of my trance like state and kept my attention on Chad, who I think just finished doing up his seatbelt and laughing quietly to himself. It had already been three hours since Chad and myself had arrived at Perth Airport and already I was starting to feel rather nervous. Sitting in my seat, I was beginning to fidget with my seatbelt as people started filling in the rows of the aircraft.
I looked over Chad's shoulder and stared out the window. Seeing the base of the airplane runway made me feel sick in my stomach. Just being here had made me feel like I was running away from my issues and that was the worst part.
"Welcome everyone. Please get yourself seated down, the aircraft is soon about to take flight in another five minutes. Please pay attention to a crew member who will give instructions on what to do in an emergency." The speaker roared loudly as a rather tall woman emerged from the side of a door wearing a short sleeved shirt, black long skirt and had her vibrant green hair tied in a bun.
The words of the woman standing up the front faded in the background as I started wondering about Melbourne itself. I didn't pay much attention to the flight attendant in the front since I've heard these rules far too many times. Even though I wasn't listening to woman talking, I found it adorable that Chad was doing his best to absorb all the information being given whilst reading the flight safety manual. I smiled and rolled my eyes as I turned to face the window once again.
On the opposite side of me, there was an empty seat next to me. I started wondering if somebody had forgotten their flight when I heard a voice from the aircraft alley.
"Excuse me ma'am, can you please help me with finding my seat number if it wouldn't take you too much time." The voice spoke as the lady began explaining to him about his seat. As I leaned my head against Chad's shoulder, I could hear the voice from behind mention that his seat number was H13. I quickly took a glance at my plane ticket receipt on my phone and smiled noticing that it was the seat right next to me.
Looks like that person I was wondering about hasn't forgotten about their flight after all. I thought to myself before putting my phone away.
"I hope you don't mind if I seat here but of course it's my seat though." The voice from before spoke up. Just as I was about to reply, I could feel my throat become dry as Ollie stood nervously near the empty seat. Clearing my throat, I agreed as I gently shook Chad's shoulder. He took off his headphones and smiled at me as I gestured his attention to Ollie who shyly waved to him.
"Oi mate, I haven't seen you in ages, not since training that day. How's things been Ollie, been keeping it cool lately?"
"It's been a long time hasn't it? Yeah, everything's been great. And if you must know, of course I've been keeping it cool lately, since cool is my middle name."
Chad and Ollie engaged in conversation for the next couple of minutes before we got ourselves settled down and checked our seatbelts. I could suddenly feel the vibration of the plane as it began to get ready for take off. I let out a deep breath. Chad noticed this and placed a hand on my stomach, we both let out a slight laugh.
"Thank you everyone for flying with Qantas Airways for the trip to Melbourne. This is your captain speaking. Hopefully you are all fine and of course enjoy your trip. Please relax as we take off in three, two, one."
