As I walked along the dusty pavement, I took a deep breath in and smiled brightly, looking upwards to the bright rays of sunlight beaming upon me, as Jessica and I made our way to the entrance of Adelaide Oval.
After a year of historic highs and lows, it was now time to put the past behind us and set our minds to the brand new season that was in front of us. Every beginning of the season was filled with mystery, contempt and possible rivalry spotfires that have the tendency to put itself out.
Today was the very first match of the brand new premiership season and it was in fact between Port Adelaide and previous grand finale contenders, Hawthorn. I was honestly excited to not only watch the boys give it their best shot but also do my bit to support Ollie aswell since it was his first game back since his shoulder injury from round 17 last year.
As I made my way past a mirror like pattern on the exterior of the building, I paused for a moment before glancing at my appearance. Wearing a black long sleeved shirt covered by my Port Adelaide guernsey, long denim jeans, black lace ups and my team's scarf, I smiled as I moved my beanie downwards a little to prevent it from being blown away before being distracted by Jess' calls.
"Are you coming? The lines already beginning to build and the gates haven't yet opened." I sighed and quickly made my way towards Jess' side as we joined the cue. Looking at her outfit choice, I was quite impressed with her resilience to sport a Port scarf when I knew that this wasn't her territory.
"You scrub up really well in the black and teal, maybe this should be your usual choice of clothing?"
"Don't even think about starting Miss Richwald. You know damn straight my heart bleeds red, white and blue. I'm only wearing this thing for your sake sweetheart." She added jokingly as we laughed to ourselves and found ourselves somehow in the front of the cue. We scanned our tickets and made our way inside searching for the way to get in the team area.
After being directed by one of the ladies in uniform, Jess and I walked straight until we reached a white door and making our way through it, we could already tell that this was going to be a massive day for everybody.
"Carmen, I can't believe I'm actually in the locker rooms. I love you for convincing me to come to today's game." She said as I smiled smugly to myself. We made our way into a space where I was assuming the families were hanging out for the time being before I could hear an array of loud voices emerging inside.
Immediately, I turned around and could see a pool of black and teal rushing through the area. I could feel my eyes sparkling with delight seeing the boys all decked out in their uniforms. A few of them took notice of me as they waved whilst they made their way into separate direction either to their groups or their own families.
I glanced over my shoulder and realised that Jessica was busily talking with one of the camera people as I rolled my eyes and darted my eyes across awaiting for Ollie's presence and could feel my heart sink.
Where was Ollie?
It was as if my doubts had suddenly become answered when out walked Ollie and Ken side by side probably talking about strategies for this afternoons game against the Hawks. I let out a sheepish smile waiting for him to finish his meeting before he came over to me and gave me a big hug.
"Hey, how's my superstar footballer doing?"
"Better now that my beautiful girl is right here." He said as he slowly pulled me close and gave me a kiss. Right now, I didn't feel the need to be embarrassed or crawl into my shell because when I was with him, I didn't have a care in the world about what anyone else thought about our relationship. Releasing from the kiss, I looked in his eyes and smiled as I wished him luck for the game.
