Facing the front of the body length mirror, I sat on my bed, trying to convince myself that what I was doing was the right thing.
After last week, our disastrous meet up, I was questioning myself on my relationship with Chad. He seemed to be ignoring my calls in the last few days and I had no clue wether it had anything to do with me or him.
I stood up in silence, watching my reflection in the mirror. Staring back at me was a young woman who wore a dark blue, short dress with a black blazer and matching black pumps. The girl in the reflection looked like me but I couldn't see any resemblance. The reflection stood tall and proud, something I didn't know how to do.
Scrolling through my messages once again, it had hit me that the last time I had any real conversation with Chad was about two weeks ago, at the shopping complex. I pushed the thought aside as I touched myself up with some perfume and headed out the door.
Watching out, I found my mother dressed up in a stunning red dress awaiting in the living room. I was impressed, this was someone who didn't enjoy the whole idea of dressing up. I forced back my self doubt as I walked up to her.
"Carmen, you look amazing." she said smiling. Giving her a hug, I forced myself to stop being negative about Chad and his behaviour. I guess I was even more surprised when Brayden stepped downstairs wearing a suit.
"Wow Brayden, you scrub up well."
"Ha, yeah but not as well as you do sis. I'm sure Chad's going to be pretty proud when he sees you tonight." I could feel myself blushing hardly when Brayden said this.
"Well, I'm glad we love each other outfits but I think we're missing someone. Carmen, where's this handsome man of yours?"
Looking around, I could feel my heart beating rapidly. Where was Chad? He promised me he'd be here and yet I didn't know what was taking him long. A loud car horn blared from the porch distracting all of us from our thoughts.
"Oh, that... that must be him mother." I nervously said making my way outside. The moment I stepped near the railings, flashbacks of our argument started flooding my mind. This was a bad time for any of this to be happening. From the corner of my eye, I could see Chad stepping out of his car.
It was like angels sang as Chad slowly walked up the stairs. His baby blue suit shone under the moonlight sky. He stopped up the steps.
"Good evening my lady. How are you doing tonight? Thank you for having me for this dinner tonight." he paused as his eyes made contact with my mother, who slowly peered her head from the doorway. She stood on the porch with hands clasped together next to me.
"Who is this beautiful young lady Carmen? I wasn't expecting your sister here tonight." He said walking closer to my mother, gently bowing and kissed her hand. Looking over to my side, I watched my mother's cheek burn bright pink.
"Oh you don't have flatter to impress anybody. I'm Carmen's mother, please call me Catherine. And you must be Chad, if I'm not mistaken?"
"Ah yes, I'm Chad Wingard, Ms Richwald. Beautiful dress by the way." he said before making his way to Brayden who clearly looked starstruck.
"Ch...Chad. It's a huge honour to be in your presence. If you need anything, don't be afraid to let me know. You are a huge idol for me, just to let you know."
"So you're the Brayden I've been hearing about? How's the football going for you?"
He gave a friendly laugh as he shook Brayden's hand and made his way towards me looking rather surprised.
"Carmen, I'm... I'm speechless. You look so beautiful. I just wanted to say wow." I smiled as I rushed up to give him a big hug. I realised that I might be hugging a bit too much when I heard Brayden clearing his throat.
