Waking up, I could still feel the numbness of Chad's harsh words replying in my mind. It had only been less than a day since our fight yet everytime I thought about it my stomach had felt like it had been twisting into a knot from day 1.
I looked outside the window, staring at the bright rays of sunlight shining into my room as I headed downstairs to find my mother who was casually reading the newspaper.
The moment I placed my foot on the bottom of the staircase, my mother began playing a game of 20 questions. I still wanted to be left alone even thought I heard one of mothers dark secrets as a teenager last night. Brushing off her questions, I told her I was heading out with a friend before she gave me a suspicious look.
"Friend? Are you sure you want to go out today? You should get some rest Carmen, I don't want you to be stressing yourself out."
"Mum, it's just a catch up with some friends, that's really it. I promise I won't wear myself out and will be back by tomorrow. Anymore questions?" I answered back. She stared at me suspiciously before turning her attention to the newspaper.
Glancing at the clock, it was already half past 4 when I suddenly realised I took my nap for a little longer than expected before heading upstairs to get ready for Ollie's party.
Half and hour later, I stepped out in front of the mirror admiring my chosen outfit of a white polka dotted blouse, a black miniskirt and a pair of black strap sandals. I smiled. Today the reflection staring back at me, wasn't trying to impress anyone or put on a show to impress myself. The reflection staring back at me was a the girl I hoped to aspire to be someday and here she is. Finally applying some makeup, I headed out the door and downstairs.
Making my way downstairs, I found Brayden on a video chat with his best mate. He paused before turning around and questioning my outfit.
"What's the special occasion that you're dressed up for? Have you sorted it out with Chad yet?"
I could feel my heart sink as Brayden stopped himself. There was more reasons for a girl to get dressed up than for childish boys.
"Can't a girl look good for herself instead of trying to impress a guy? God, do all you boys think the same or something?" I scowled at him.
"Alright, calm down Carmen but seriously you look really good for a sister." I ignored his comment as I moved closer towards the computer screen. On the screen was a young man with blonde hair. His attention broke off as he began making sudden eye contact with me.
"Hey gorgeous. I'm Daniel and wow, you look stunning. How are you darling?"
"Hey Daniel, I'm great thank you. By the way, I'm Carmen. Are you friends with Brayden?"
"Yeah, we're best mates since we both starting playing for the Northern Knights."
"Keep up the great work champ. Good luck with your future footballing." I said as I said bye to Daniel and Brayden making my way outside. I checked my phone and noticed I had a new text from Ollie.
Hey, I'll pick you up from your place if you want. You ready for the party?
You sure? Thanks once again, I'm glad to have a friend like you and yes, I'm ready to party :) - Carmen.
I smiled at Ollie's reply and texted him my address. Several minutes had gone by before a black car drove into the driveway, I said my final goodbyes as I made my way into the black car, greeted by a smiling Ollie.
"Thanks for coming tonight, I'm sure you're going to have a lot of fun. By the way, you look stunning Carmen."
I looked down at the dress I was wearing and smiled at him. Examining his outfit, Ollie wore a white sleeveless Arctic Monkeys shirt, black skinny jeans and black vans. He actually looked pretty good in his outfit. Ollie turned on the radio as Taylor Swift began playing on the radio.
