The soft and soothing church music began to play loudly as everybody kept their focus on the brown coloured double church doors. The fresh, vibrant scent of the subtle spring breeze danced around the room, slowly a line of little girls in pink dresses began to make their way down the aisle; beautiful shades of pastel coloured petals were scattered around the ground.
Ollie, his parents and myself sat in the first row up near the edge of the stage where I turned to face Jordan as I noticed a bead of tears rolling down his cheek. I could tell he noticed I was looking over at his side where we made eye contact and I let a shy smile form upon my face; surprisling, he returned the favour as he smiled back, exposing his pearly white set of teeth. I must admit, although Jordan was a massive jerk towards me when I first met him, his sense of protection of both Ollie and his wife impressed me greatly. Deep down, I could feel that Jordan wasn't a total douche I assumed he was.
Excited chatters soon filled the church hall as the signal was given that the bride was about to make her entrance and finally, it was the moment we were all waiting for. Jordan's wife, Gwen came from the left side of the door, slowly making her way down the aisle and up the stage. We were all in total surprise seeing Gwen radiating her beauty down the aisle. Her shiny blonde hair was tied up in a 70's styled piece. She wore a long, white ball gown with a sparkly design on the chest of the dress. The vail she wore matched the dress; it was white and rather long. I watched in silence as the vail swam behind her on the red carpet underneath her sparkly shoes.
It was at this moment, I could tell Jordan was becoming emotional which is something I would not have expected to happen, in a good way of course. Gwen moved up the steps and stood by the side of her husband to be, Jordan. Looking next to me, I could see Ollie smiling more brightly then I have ever seen him smile before, Jane wiping her eyes on the tissue and Tony doing his best to comfort his wife during this heartwarming event; I could even see the priest starting to show emotion as he wiped tears away from his eyes.
Jordan and Gwen interlocked hands as I could my eyes beginning to water. Everybody else was crying at this beautiful moment, so I might as well add to the celebration of two beautiful people coming together and allowing us to share their special day. The priest gestured for us to settle down and cleared his throat as he slowly began to open the small bible that sat in his rather small hands and started to begin the ceremony.
"Bride and Groom. You have written this promise together and undertake it here today with each other. You have prepared these words to reflect your intentions both as individuals and as a couple. "
"We do." Jordan and Gwen spoke in unison as I wiped away a tear that formed from my eyes. I don't normally get emotional, but today just felt so different. It was a nice feeling to know that two people are finally getting married and agreeing to spend the rest of their lives together.
"You agree, that your marriage to one another is eternal and as important as life itself?"
"We do."
"That to support each other through all life's adventures is the answer to a long and happy life together?"
"We do."
"That long lasting happiness requires energy, caring and dedication?"
"We do."
It was a blessing to be able to witness Jordan and Gwen get married, it really was but now, the more I thought about the pair's happiness, I was left to wonder about my own happiness. They say that love isn't something you find but rather something that finds you so if that's the case, why does it feel like I'm forcing something that I know that should be there. Being with Ollie, was something I thought that was meant to be beautiful but nowadays, our relationship just feels like a candle that was having trouble becoming lit. Looking up and turning my attention back to the wedding ceremony, I let out a deep sigh as my eyes widened looking at Gwen's face.
I shook my head to try my best to get rid of the memory and felt relieved when I noticed it was Gwen standing on stage. I then trailed my eyes over to Jordan who smiled before I noticed Chad's face.
Wait, what?
I blinked my eyes to have my vision restored, back to seeing Jordan smiling at Gwen. What was my mind doing? Why was I imaging Chad and myself up there? I knew I had to get a grip and pay attention to the wedding since I knew I was here for Ollie's sake.
"I take you to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part." Jordan said, staring in amazement and pure joy in Gwen's big, beautiful, brown eyes.
"I, take you to be my husband. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love and honor you all the days of my life. I love you Jordan." Gwen spoke with her soft tone as she too locked her eyes on Jordan, both of them spending the next few moments in silence exploring each other's eyes. The seconds passed by as Jordan let a smirk form upon his face as Gwen started to blush but still kept her eyes locked onto Jordan's.
"I call upon the person here to present to witness the marriage of Jordan Wines and Gwenyth Sandra Jones." The priest said aloud as I could sense everybody holding their breaths in, awaiting for the marriage to become official. If I wasn't as distracted as I was at the moment, I would have been screaming on the inside for them to kiss already but right now, my sudden thoughts of Chad was enough to put me off.
"Jordan Wines, do you take Gwenyth Sandra Jones, to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do."
" Gwenyth Sandra Jones, do you take Jordan Wines, to be your lawfully wedded husband?" The priest ask Gwen hesitated for a moment, a look of concern rushed over Jordan's face before Gwen wrapped her arms around Jordan's.
"Of course I do. I always have and I definitely always will." Gwen exclaimed.
"You may know kiss the bride." The priest shouted loudly as Jordan and Gwen moved their lips together and began to kiss each other as Jordan placed his hands on Gwen's waist. As the pair began to continue their kiss, for some reason I started picturing Chad and myself in their position when Ollie placed his arm over me. I was startled with my current state of mind. Why I was picturing myself marrying Chad was a complete mystery to me but all I did know was that I felt awkward since Ollie and his mother and father was sitting near me. I brushed off the thought as I hoped it would go away.
Jordan and Gwen released from their kiss as everybody in the venue got to their feet and started clapping rather loudly as a couple of whistles were blown. I didn't whether to say something to Ollie or do anything but the only thing I knew was that the reception was about to start and I needed to keep myself thinking straight if I wanted to look like I was keeping attention during the ceremony.
As the ceremony drew to an end, I looked around me to find the guests getting to their feet either breaking out in a conversation or slowly making their way to the reception which was on the opposite side of the building I assumed.
I still felt a little freaked out over my mind playing games during the wedding ceremony but I guess I had to get used to it, it didn't feel like a bad thing at all, I hoped.
Turning my attention to Ollie's parents, they had broken out in their own conversation as Jane wiped a tear from her face. I let a small smile form upon my face as I felt a pair of hands wrap around my waist. Turning around, I could feel that smile disappear when I faced Ollie.
"Hey babe." His soft tone rushed through my mind as I glanced at the detail of his black designer sunglasses. I guess the sunglasses were a bit of a distraction for me as I didn't know what else to do with myself.
"Hi Ollie." I said watching his face turn sour. I knew that he could tell I was having doubts about absolutely everything but was being a gentleman not bringing up anything.
"Why don't we uh, start making our own way to the reception since everyone is already there anyway."
"Sure." I said as the tension between the pair of us began to build between us as the seconds passed by. It was quite sad that it was already getting to this stage. When I first started the relationship with Ollie, I felt as if I had the world in my hands but now, everything seems to be falling apart.
I put on a smug smile as Ollie grabbed my hand and slowly led me to the reception hall where everybody had already gathered for the bride and groom's toast.
