23. Determination

Nikaido gave it another try.

Thankfully, the amount of money was enough for twenty seconds with one devil. Since she and Asu are close, Nikaido chose him, waiting for the devil to appear. Her old friend came from the shadows, pleased to see her for such a long time.

Since she didn't have enough time for a friendly chat, she asked him straight away, "We are looking for a friend of ours, her name is N/A. I think that En and his family is behind all this...can you help me?"

Asu sighted at this, "I knew you would ask me about this. It is true, En is hunting her down because she broke the law of this world..." his face got closer to Nikaido, "...don't forget that you are still connected to En by the contract. If you ask me, she isn't worth of getting into trouble."

"But she is my friend; I would do anything to help her."

"What is it that she is worth to get into trouble with En?"

Nikaido's eyes gone soft, "You see, I noticed how she and Kaiman are getting closer to each other. I want to see them both happy."

Asu got curious, "Is he in love with this human girl?"

"He never said it, but...I think so."

For the devil was it a simple solution, "He better give up and get another girlfriend. There are enough women in Hole for him to choose." Nikaido didn't want to believe her friend, that he won't help her out in this situation. Asu however, knows exactly why he didn't want to help, "First of all Nikaido, I got into trouble before for your lizard friend and second, the En family isn't the only one interested in this girl." He didn't want to upset her, but that the devils are also looking for me, doesn't make it any easier for Nikaido. Asu patted her shoulder lightly, "Chidaruma is bored and wants to have some fun with a human being. Probably burning her to death or rip her apart limb by limb..."

"What did she do to deserve to be killed like that?!"

The devil shook his head, "We don't need a reason to torment humans and devils have done this for centuries. She broke the law of sorcerers, living as a human in this world. The only exception to be here as a non sorcerer, is when you become a slave. At this point, there are no longer humans, just objects used by sorcerers."

"This is cruel Asu"

"I am sorry Nikaido, but for you and this lizard guy, it is best to let her go."

The devil seems to be surprised, as she pushed his hand off her shoulder, standing up, "I didn't came all the way here, work my ass off for money, just to hear that I should leave a friend of mine here to get killed?!" Asu wanted to say something, but Nikaido cut him off, "Please, at least tell me where she is."

"Nikaido, are you sure you want to go through with this?"

She nodded, "More than anything."

"Very well; she was caught by slave traders yesterday, who sold her to En. She is now working in his mansion as a slave."

"She is alive, right?"

Suddenly, the devil stood up, "Yes she is, Chidaruma told us."

"Wait, the devils know?" Apparently, the devils enjoy the situation so much, that they don't see any reason to kill me just yet. According to Chidaruma, he wants to annoy En for a while; it is a lot more fun for them to watch and play tricks on the sorcerers. Nikaido noticed how he started to disappear, "Time is up; I wish you good luck."

Before he was completely out of sight, he gave her a hint, "Try the garden party tomorrow."

"Garden party? Asu?" She had to tell Kaiman all about it, any minute counts.

The lizard man had listened to her, while eating meat bags. The rest of the staff was too busy to pay any attention to the two. Kaiman's heart raced, as he heard that my life is on the line, stuffing the last bags down his throat, "What are we waiting for? Let get her out of there!"

"Hold it. The garden party is tomorrow. We have to get in there without causing a scene...and by 'we' I mean 'you'!" He sat back in his chair, mumbling annoyed. Nikaido never seen him so worried, "Kaiman, do you love N/A?"

"What??????" he almost feel out of the chair, "Are you mad?! Love her?! She is a pain in the butt and good for nothing trouble maker."

"And yet you gave me all your money for her...without a single complaint."

"..." He couldn't look her in the eye

"Don't try to fool me...She means a lot more to you than you let on." Nikaido left her friend there, while he held his head not saying anything, "..." His boss noticed this later on, as the lizard man was still at the table, "What is it with you today? You sat here for two hours and didn't say a word."

"...I don't know what to think anymore..."

Tanba took the seat on the opposite side, "About what?" As not the most patient man, he grabbed Kaiman's spikes to get him talking, for the lizard man a very painful thing.

"If I like her or not!"

"Her? So it is about a girl? The one you had in your bed?"

Kaiman didn't want to say it, just nodded at that. Tanba couldn't help but laugh, "You shared bed with her, she wore your jacket and you are telling me that you don't like her?"

"She was cold and I didn't want to hear her nagging about it."

The owner wasn't blind either, "She was asleep and you took her into 'your' bed. Who are you trying to fool here?!" Kaiman had enough of this, getting up while slamming his hands on the table, "Okay fine, I like her!" Tanba didn't move an inch at his outburst, not even as the lizard man dropped back into his seat, "...It doesn't matter anyway..."
