Word count: 535

The sun was setting behind the mountains, casting a soft golden hue on the park where Hyunjin and I sat on a worn-out bench. The chirping of birds and gentle rustle of leaves in the autumn breeze created a serene atmosphere around us. As I nervously played with the hem of my sweater, my heart felt like a drum beating out of rhythm.

"Hyunjin," I began, my voice barely above a whisper. He turned to me, his deep brown eyes filled with curiosity. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what I was about to do. "I think we should break up."

His expression morphed from confusion to disbelief, then to devastation in a matter of seconds. His eyes widened, the corners of his mouth trembled, and a single tear trickled down his cheek before he could even muster a response. The weight of his pain hit me like a ton of bricks, and I immediately regretted my choice of words.

"Y...Y/N.. Why? What did I do wrong?" His voice quivered with raw emotion, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. My heart ached at the sight of his anguish, but I knew I had to push through with the prank.

But as I opened my mouth to reveal the truth, to tell him it was all just a joke, my words caught in my throat. The realization of how much this had affected him sank in, casting a shadow over the playful intent of my prank. I reached out to touch his hand, but he pulled away, his gaze fixated on the ground as if he couldn't bear to look at me.

"I-I'm sorry, Hyunjin. It was supposed to be a joke," I stammered, my voice cracking with remorse. "I never wanted to hurt you like this. Please forgive me." His shoulders shook with silent sobs, his pain palpable in the air between us.

The park around us seemed to fade into the background, leaving only the two of us in a bubble of shared heartache. The sun had dipped below the horizon, casting a dusky glow on our faces as the cool breeze danced around us, carrying the whispers of regret and longing.

Finally, Hyunjin lifted his head, his tear-streaked face searching mine for some semblance of truth. "You... you were joking?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. I nodded fervently, relief flooding through me like a burst dam. "I was. I'm so sorry, Hyunjin. I never meant to hurt you. Please forgive me."

A flicker of understanding washed over his features, mingling with the remnants of hurt and confusion. Slowly, hesitantly, he reached out and took my hand, his grip gentle but reassuring. "Just... don't ever do that again, okay?" he said, a ghost of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

And as we sat there, bathed in the fading light of the day, I made a silent promise to never play such a cruel prank again. Love wasn't a game to be toyed with, and the pain I had caused Hyunjin was a stark reminder of that undeniable truth.
