Giedi Prime, 10192
"Khala?" A soft voice asked tentatively, creaking open the door. Leonara flinched at the sound of her old name, expecting, and feeling a burning pain in her back.
"Don't call me that." Her voice was steely and emotionless. The man in front of the door stopped in his tracks, his eyes searching hers, an anguish creeping into his bright blue eyes.
Feyd's heart sank as he watched Leonara's transformation unfold before his eyes. The anguish in his bright blue eyes deepened, reflecting the pain of losing her once again. He took a tentative step forward, desperate to reach her, to break through the walls she had erected around herself.
"It happened again, didn't it?" he ventured softly, his voice laced with sorrow.
"What?" Leonara recoiled, her voice cold and devoid of emotion. He stepped forward, but she backed away until her back met the unforgiving wall, her eyes betraying a hint of vulnerability beneath their steely exterior.
"He erased your memories," Feyd whispered, his words heavy with resignation.
"He didn't," she shot back, her tone sharp and unwavering.
"He did, you are Khala of the fremen," Feyd murmured, his gaze pleading with her to remember. He had called her Leonara to show his possession over her, how he controlled every aspect of her including her name... but she would remember Khala, right? Of course she would!
He reached up a hand to touch her, to console her, to help her remember–
"I remember what happened. I remember being with the fremen, I remember the Baron brainwashing me. But I am no longer Khala."
Feyd's frown deepened, confusion clouding his features. "What do you mean?"
"I remember!" Leonara's frustration bubbled to the surface, her words cutting through the air like a knife. "I remember how the Baron made me forget, but now, I remember everything, and I'm still loyal to him. I remember how the fremen left me!"
Feyd pleaded desperately, his heart breaking at the sight of her inner turmoil. "They didn't! You loved them!"
"I did. But they left me to die," Leonara advanced slowly, her movements calculated and deliberate. Feyd instinctively stepped back, a sense of unease settling in the pit of his stomach. Her words were like daggers, each one piercing his heart with a painful truth he could hardly bear.
"I remember what you did," she accused, her voice dripping with venom. "You handed me over to the Baron, hoping he would kill me, didn't you? But the Baron is kinder than you could ever think!"
Feyd shook his head. He had never done that, the Baron had gotten wind of Khala's arrival far before Feyd even got his hands on her. If he could've, he never would've given her over to the Baron's filthy hands. He would've protected her, isolated her from the danger that was Giedi Prime.
"The Baron is cruel!" Feyd's voice rose with desperation, his words pleading for her to see reason.
Leonara straightened, attempting to match his height, her gaze unwavering as she met his pleading eyes. "Oh yeah? Then why do I feel a pain so strong it feels physical each time I imagine my so-called friends?"
"I don't know what the Baron did to you, but please believe me, Khala!" Feyd implored, his voice cracking with emotion.
"I am Leonara!" she growled, her defiance echoing through the room like a thunderclap. Feyd fell silent, defeated, as he watched her storm past him, the weight of her words hanging heavy in the air.
Feyd stood rooted to the spot, his mind swirling with a tempest of emotions. He watched her retreating figure, a sense of helplessness washing over him like a tidal wave.
He had failed her. Again.
Guilt gnawed at his insides as he replayed their conversation in his mind, searching for any semblance of a solution. But each memory, each word exchanged, only served to deepen his despair.
I should've fought for her more. I shouldn't have let them take her.
He had hoped against hope that he could reach her, that he could break through the barriers erected by the Baron's cruel manipulation. But Leonara remained steadfast in her loyalty, her allegiance twisted beyond recognition.
Feyd clenched his fists in frustration, his heart heavy with the weight of his failure. He had loved her once, with a passion that burned brighter than any star in the sky. But now, she was lost to him, consumed by the darkness that enveloped her.
A lone tear escaped his eye, trailing down his cheek like a silent plea for forgiveness.
He was terrified. He had been terrified for all those years she hadn't been there. She had been his anchor through the hard times, a light in the darkness... so when she had left, he had succumbed to the darkness he was being fed by the Baron.
And now that the same thing was happening to her, he would make sure to be her anchor. He would be there for her, whether the monster inhabiting her body liked it or not.
With a heavy sigh, Feyd turned away from the empty room, his footsteps echoing in the silence of the hallway. He knew that he could never give up on her, that he would continue to fight for her, even as the odds stacked against them.
For Leonara was not just a memory to him.
She was his salvation, his redemption, his everything.
And he would do whatever it took to bring her back.
AN: short chapter, but it's a double update hawhaw. I just wanted to showcase a bit if Feyd's perspective, and to highlight how different this time's brainwashing was to last time, though I'm not quite sure if I made that super clear.
